Guys how do you check up on the status of your apple order? I too have ordered a powerbook 1GHz w/ 1GB RAM and superdrive. However they gave me an estimated date of 5 weeks. I wrote it saying that I will be out of the UK (where i study) in 3 weeks time and was hoping that they could send it earlier. However, they replied saying that they would only give me a confirmation date sometime next week. Grrr... can't wait to get mine, and hope it does come before I leave UK to go for holidays otherwise I would have to wait agnonisingly over the Christmas holidays and receive the Powerbook upon arrival back to UK....
Also it the new Powerbook compatible with 4x speed DVD burning after the installation of the new patch (situated at the home page of www.apple.com ??? or is it just to make it compatible burning on 4x DVD but still will burn at a speed of 1x ??)
thanks
Hui

Hey, my parents jumped the gun with my powerbook, so i have it here right now and i am using it right now. love it. the fan is almost always on, of course, but it doesn't bother me at all. it's a very smooth system.... but i haven't worked it to the teeth except for an installation, if you could call that such. i went ahead and installed from scratch so i could partition, and i just like going through the process to familiarize myself with things a little more. didn't take too long to install.
Boot times are naturally pretty crappy... i expected this though, having spent some time on linux boxes... all that crap they start up, lol. but that is all fine by me, the wake time is instantaneous; it is to windows laptops what calculus is to classical mathematics-instantaneous. love it. anyways, i have a few questions up front. stuffit delux has put this icky icon up in the tray, or whatever you guys call it, up there by the clock. i can't find how to remove this. the other question i have is how to get the dock to move over to the left or right--not the left side of the screen, but on the bottom, aligned to the left. i have seen this on a lot of screenshots and stuff. anybody know? thanks macusers, i am GIDDY to be a part of this community officially; beats my pee cee hands down, except i am not as good with it yet. still learning the keyboard commands. that brings another question - how do you make keyboard shortcuts to apps?

how did you recieve it so fast?...i thought they shipped 3-6weeks after being introduced.

If you got your order in as soon as they were released you got it in 1-2 weeks. By "as soon as they were released" I am talking in the first hours.

Saying that, I would not be suprised if you had more time than that in the US... we are SO jibbed for product here in Oz.

Yes, which just supports my claim that in the US you get WAY more stock than we do. And, when I say that, I am talking ratio of orders to stock is bigger... obviously more people in the US = more stock.

When we were waiting up to a month to receive Flat Panel iMacs, people here went to the US for a MacWorld to find iMacs stacked to the roof in US stores. When they were given an opportunity to talk to some of the Apple heads, they had a few words to say and questions to ask.

yes, i dislike those disinterested teenage employees that half-heartedly try to sell me macs and know literally nothing about them.

anyways, cya guys around.

Hey, dont go dissing us teenagers. I work at my parents store and i know a ton about macs. I am only 17 and i know macs probably better than every employee in there. if i didnt have school and worked everyday i would sell macs like crazy. I have much pride and faith in my computer choice and i sell these computers and recommend them like every one in the world needs one.

I do believe the reference was to teens who do not know anything about macs so if you know lots than you have nothing to worry about.

To tell you the truth, when I first got my PowerBook I both loved it and hated it

It Paniced about 3-4 times a day and would have many problems. After thins like permission repairing I now love my PowerBook (minus the fact that so many of the cool games will not work because for some bizzare reason the keyboard locks out and I have to use an external keyboard)

anyone check the cpu part number?

The one poster mentions the fan runs all the time, so it's probably a 7455, but there was some speculation that some 7457's might be in there instead (130nm)... Probably the CPU control panel from Apple would tell you...

If you were able to tell me exactly where to look I would find it for you

How long do we gotta wait?

I ordered my top-of-the-line TiBook (with the education store discount and RAM upgrade ;)) on November 22nd... and still no word from Apple, but when I ordered, it said that it would take 3 to 4 weeks. It's already been three weeks, and still no word. Needless to say, I'm impatient. :(

Nothing would frustrate me more than going home for break and having to look at MoH sitting unopened in its box just 'cause my G3 iMac/500 can't handle it, and with break being only two weeks long, I need the new computer for winter quarter (my Powerbook G3/233 died on me-- long story). So I've been computerless, and it's driving me crazy having to go to the lab and do my work on a Cowbox (we have new flatpanel iMacs and a lot of graphite G4's, but they're broken most of the time). With finals coming up... I'm gonna have to use them even more. I've been using Windoze for so long that I've learned the hotkeys. :(

Something I've noticed while playing around with the AppleStore is that the estimated shipping dates changed. For example, a couple days ago, a Powerbook in the shopping cart said 3-5 days, and today, it says 7-10 days. Does it indicate that they've built some recently and have already shipped them?
