Erm not quite sure what you mean? Not heard this anywhere else and rather doubt it - does that mean no-one can upgrade to Lion if they have an MBA? Does the App Sore know what computer you have and serve up the right version?

I downloaded Lion on my 2010 MBA last week. No problems except the rare Lion bugs, mostly opening iPhoto.

You're both wrong, OP is correct. 2011

I eagerly await your list of epic $1600 laptops...

What does that supposed to mean? Now a days you can get a super powerful laptop for under $1000, thus something around $1600 should be pretty epic. I love my MBA, but I do realize that I've paid a VERY hefty premium (to the verge of not being justifiable in terms of what's being reasonable).

Give it time. As with the backlight keyboard. Give it time.

As for the restore media I'm really tired of some of you making excuses for Apple. I should not have to do Apple's job. How is it even remotely acceptable to sell a computer without a 100% viable way to restore it REGARDLESS OF INTERNET CONNECTION? Don't give me the cost BS. As I said, it costs them literally pennies to manufacture.

..snip

1) When you sell millions of anything, cutting a few cents ends up being big $$$. Apple hasn't stockpiled 70+ billion in cash by listening to a few users that throw a fit because they changed the way things are done.

2) This was a well known fact prior to buying the MBA. IF you post on MR, you knew about it. Bitching about things you knew were there is pointless. Your bad for buying something you didn't like.

3) The other issues from fan noise to creaking whatever sounds like it may an MBA with issues. Swap it out, but then again that is pointless since the predetermined issues should have kept you from buying it in the first place.

Just tested it, it worked fine on my iMac but not on my 2011 MBA, which is annoying. I'm wondering if I can get all the downloaded components from the MBA's recovery utility onto a disc, though.

But to clarify, the Lion copy you download from the Mac Apple Store doesn't work with the MBA 2011 as it uses a different version (pointed out by someone else - thanks).

Did your 2011 MBA not already come loaded with Lion, just curious why you would need to download again from the app store? If you are having problems would not be best to do the internet recovery, Command "R" on power up, for a clean restore?

My MBA is the 2010 Late october version. I also down loaded it to my late 2007 iMac.

This is the recovery process. I'm returning this MBA 2011 to Apple so I thought I'd restore it.

if you are that worried, just make a carbon copy clone from the fresh system to a USB stick, 8 or 16gb should do it.
And almost every laptop you buy today, asks you to burn some dvd's to restore the system when needed.
And if you would have a MBA 2011, you would know there is a separate partition on the SSD that has the restore files you so desperately need even before you have a MBA.

Yes but you have to download the additional components... but good idea about the carbon copy.

If you are really remote or have a slow internet connection, you could also consider a 32gb stick, set up your complete system with the absolutely necessary programs and files and then carbon copy clone it?
If things go really bad it would take some hours to have everything copied back, but it would be a reliable way.
