My 2017 MacBook base model is connected to my LG Ultrafine 4K monitor via Thunderbolt, but it has started briefly going black for 1 second at a time

I love my 2017 MacBook base model. Brilliant, portable, and pretty powerful machine IMO.

I have it connected to my LG Ultrafine 4K monitor via Thunderbolt, and it works great.

Today for some reason, it has randomly been going black for 1 second then coming right back.

It's not particularly bothersome, but my worry is that there is something wrong with my device.

Any ideas?

It hasn't done it now in many hours. I think it may be gone. Let's hope for the best.

FYI, the 2017 MacBook doesn't have Thunderbolt. It has USB-C (3.1 gen1) and supports DisplayPort 1.2 Alternate Mode. So I guess (?) you're driving LG Ultrafine 4K monitor with DisplayPort signals.

Your question is still valid, though, and I regret I don't have an answer for you.

Get a new cable. Make sure it’s a top quality one.

And as @tuc says, you don’t have Thunderbolt.
