I finished setting up my new iPhone 16 Pro Max and wanted to do my usual backup to my MacBook Pro 2017. I know it is vintage but it has always been able to back up my devices. However, nothing I tried could get my MacBook Pro to recognize my iPhone 16 Pro Max being plugged into it. The phone is able to charge. So as a test I plugged the new iPhone into my partner’s newer intel MacBook Pro and it offered to back it up. I hope that Apple releases a software patch that will allow me to backup my iPhone to my Mac so I don’t have to buy more iCloud storage or a new MacBook.

How about Image Capture? Did it show up as a camera to download your photos/videos?

Moderation Note

There is a thread on what I think is the same topic here:

The solution given there is to use a USB-A to USB-C cable to connect the iPhone to the 2017 Mac. I think a couple different Mac models are named.

If that solution works for @Benito, then please post saying so. I will then take care of the duplicate threads.

I just added "2017" to the other thread's title, so if you did a search but didn't find it earlier, that's why.

EDIT
Now that it's resolved, please take any further discussion to the above-linked thread.

I found that thread a while after I had started this one. In fact, since I already had a usb a female to usb c male adapter, I purchased a usb a male to usb c female adapter and then using a usb c cable was able to get my 2017 MacBook Pro to recognize and back up my iPhone 16 Pro Max.
