Just got back from Best Buy and typing this on my first mac - Imac 21.5 base model. Wow, what a machine. This is one beautiful computer. I can not wait to learn all about mac and this computer. Thanks everyone who contributed to this forum to help folks like me with their first mac.

I also got iwork (good idea?) and mobile me. Going to try these out soon. I have a question - I have seen some thread that talk about slow start up time. I am not sure what it supposed to be. If someone who has the same model, please let me know. I think I timed it and it took me around 55 sec to have it back and running. Is this OK? Should I restart Leopard before I load this computer with pics and everything.

Any suggestions as to the first mac user are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to this great forums. :D

god, this thing is pretty :)

Not sure about the start up time, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to do a restart if it's your gut feeling.

First order of business: get some apps. The software for OSX is one of the most fun things about Mac's. Check out the best Mac apps thread to see some of the most used apps on the forum.

Until then, go download iStatPro, or iStatMenus. It'll show you at all times what's exactly going on with your computer.

Have fun with your first mac.

thank you. I did some research on this forum and found that going to system preferences and choosing internal HD as start up helped me alot, basically cut my boot time in half and now it boots up under 20 sec. Highly recommend doing that for those who feel mac challanged  (like me) to do clean install

I am going to download this app that you mentioned. Thanks

I did the same and my start up time is about 23 seconds now. Was about 50-55 seconds.

well...been playing this this imac for some time now and it works like magic. Everything just simply works. I do not seem to have any flickering issues or dead pixels. However, I am still under 14 day return if things do go south. I am learning the ropes with mac OS. To those who might consider buying their first mac or just upgrading from older model - go ahead and treat yourself. Its really worth it.
I do have a question guys that I can't seem to find the answer to on these forums. My wife is in love with 'scrapbook' theme for slideshow. Is there are some other themes like iphoto comes with that I can download or buy. This seems like a great way to show people some photo events without really setting anything up. And iphoto comes with maybe 4 or 5 themes. I would love to get my hands on some cool ones

    Thanks a bunch
Applelicious (now I really mean it :D)

For me, it was the journey up until I used OS X that I am most proud of, because it prevented me from being just another kid who thinks they are hot stuff because they can operate a GUI.

I know I feel the same way. It took me long enough as well. One thing I know for certain is that there is no going back. Bye bye Gates and hello Jobs.

Hey, how do you check for yellow tinge? I did not notice anything but maybe its a good thing  If I don't see it why bother looking for it

I just got my 21.5" on Friday... I got a discount before the BF sale from Apple. It wasn't the full discount but hey every little bit counts.

I got mine from Amazon on Black Friday for 1049, free shipping and no tax. Damn nice deal, roughly 13% off. I've been waiting on BF for this and it came thru.

It's working like a dream. Did all the updates and installed my CS3 design premium. I can't say anything bad about it yet.

Don't forget to go into system preference and set your internal HD as start up. It should speed up your boot time by about half a minute. Mine boots now under 20 sec (if you interested in that sort of thing :D)

Ohh wow. Those are some nice art designs. Do you actually make guitars or just design art for them? It seems like you do since you have pics of what it seems like a workshop. In your profile it says that you are art design. So I was not sure.

In my day job I design shirt graphics... lots of hand drawing and photoshop painting. As a hobby I like to build guitars. I need to start selling them, I don't think my wife will let me keep anymore than I have now.
