Even in areas where it should be less. I have yet to see it drop to 4. Anyone else notice this?
You find this to be an issue?
Yeah I noticed that also. I work at a high school and my office is no where near windows. When I had my iphone 3g and 3gs, I never had any bars inside the school. Now I have the ipad in my office and I have 5 bars. ATT must have did some upgrading somewhere.
Yep - read your ULA - its guaranteed
thats cause the iphone is a ****** antenna. it was never att and was always apple. also thats why apple wont give the iphone to Verizon cause it was always there own fault.
Good to know
I've been at less, even at zero!
There was a tower problem in the area.
That's just how good AT&T is.
No, it is lying to us. If you turn off your cellular (go into airplane mode) then turn it back on, you'll see the true bars for a split second when it first gets a signal. Then it goes to full 5 bars and stays there... It's a coverup...
I had that at first until I realized I was just staring at the picture on the front of the box.
Or maybe that other is the lie.
Come hang out with me for a little while. I'll show you what zero bars on at&t looks like!
My 3G bars fluctuates and goes from 5 to 4 and rarely down to 2 bars, but I don't notice much difference in the speed either way. It mostly stays around 5 bars.
Mine fluctuates whenever I travel, the worst so far was in the mall with all that concrete and steel the reception went pretty low.
I think the iPad just has a great radio and antenna.
In my office at work, my VZW cell phone only gets one bar even if I hold it up by then window. The roof of the building has Copper plating, so the building acts like a giant faraday cage.
My iPad usually has 5 bars. When it is raining, it drops down to 1 or 2, but I always get a connection. Pretty amazing.
When I'm in a 10" thick steel vault, 6 stories below the ground, standing next to a human sized magnet, my reception is HORRIBLE. Apple is going to pay for this...
I usually have a steady 4-5 bars in my local mall..
I live in LA, and work @ orange county and almost in every place I go, I average 5 bars of 3G from AT&T with my iPad
If I leave the 3G running when I know I am sitting near a wifi signal, is it draining the battery faster than if I use sbsettings to turn off the 3G?
Or, if I am no where near a wifi, should I turn off wifi?
My 3G reception is better on my iPad 3G than my iPhone 3GS. There are more antennas on the iPad I believe. But even my iPhone reception is better than 6 months ago. The network around here has definitely been upgraded.
Those of us who own the 3G/64GB/$829 and the AT&T MicroCell always have 5 bars.

Is your sig a joke?
Nope. I'm just proud of myself.

I was waiting for you to post in here.. I figured your iPad would always have 6 bars of signal!
