Oh dear, you are getting tiresome now.....

I can't argue with the historical significance of those brands, from the technical genius of the first Rolex Oysters, to the beauty and simplicity of the Carera 45's.

But my point is that they are all historical watches, which are over 50 years old. In the preceding time the brands have not produced anything else of merit, they are relying on previous heritage to market their modern products.

There is an endless resource of information on watch cost breakdowns,if you choose to do some research it is easy to find.

What gets my goat is that with a premium brand Swiss watch, the majority of the retail price goes to AD markups and overheads, bricks and mortar shops and marketing, with only a third to a quarter going on the cost of materials and construction.

I choose to be more discerning with my hard earned cash.

If there are a lot of resources available, please share those numbers, Mr. armchair swiss watch company CEO.

You may think you are choosing to be discerning, but in reality you are just buying from a different market segment.
You believe that those watches are "overpriced" because you are not those brands' target market.

I have a Patek Philippe, rolex etc.
I know that rolex is not the best but there is no such thing as "the best watch company."

There are watches from brands like many Pateks, Lange, Richard Milles etc that I cannot afford but I don't go around trashing richard mille for making watches that I cannot afford.

My Watch idea,
I played a bit with photoshop and made the Apple Watch a bit wider, what do you think

Actually I like the idea.

I pretty much said this a couple of days ago.

Due to human anatomy a watch cannot really be taller, unless it curves around your wrist, then we can run into other issues, but there is zero reason why it can't be wider, within reason of course.

It solves 2 of the BIGGEST issues in one swoop and also help with other problems too.

1: It makes the screen a vastly more usable size, and shape, as humans do far better with a wider, than narrower screen ration.

2: It of course allows for better battery life.

And you can also fit more in etc etc.

Honestly, if Apple had come up with that, I think everyone's jaw would of dropped at such a future thinking solution to the smart watch issues.

Apps could be amazing, it would make all other smart watches look old fashioned in a single stroke.

It would really be a step into the future.

Unfortunately, I feel it would clash badly with older people, and those who have very old fixed views of what a 'Watch' should be like.

Personally I think you would win those people around, after seeing what it had the potential to offer.

My disappointment is that, now Apple have played it safe, and not taken a leap of faith and produced something along those lines, the shape now it going to be stuck in place for good.

It's set in concrete for years and years and years.

Another maker could put themselves forward and do it, but as I said, I think they are all too scared to push forward with anything too different as they don't want to scare people off.

It's sad, but I love the concept, and think it could have the potential to be something really amazing.

I'm sure of course, people will rubbish it. But many don't like something that's too different.

Well done on the concept artwork :)

Nobody is going to want the size of a smartphone on their wrist. Honestly I think the Watch is so you don't have to pull your 6 Plus out of your pocket/handbag/briefcase all the time. And eventually the watch will be completely independent from the phone (of course that all depends on battery life).

Please look at the photo again.

That is no where near the size of a smartphone.

It's a watch, stretched in the only logical direction a watch could be stretched, in line with your arm bone.

I agree, you don't really want a thing the size of a phone on your wrist, whilst one company is trying, it's a step to far. For me anyway.

This though, image above, it just a wider watch to allow more usability, that is going to be an issue if it every wants to split from becoming a phone accessory

Nobody's going to want something that big on their arm. How do you use it if you've got long sleeves on? Wear it over the sleeve? I don't think so.
