My apple watch no longer makes beep sound when charging

All of a sudden the distinctive beep when you place the watch on a charger or when counts down to you when you choose a workout is gone.
I can still answer call with it so the speaker is OK. I have checked settings but not sure what happened.
Nice to hear the beep when you place on a charger sort of like the beep you hear when you lock a car.
Any ideas?

Maybe silent mode got turned on somehow?
