I think this happened after an automatic update to macOS and couple of weeks ago. I'm running macOS 10.13.4 on a 2017 15" MacBook Pro and my Apple Watch 3 is running watchOS 4.3 (15T212). Everything used to work perfectly but now the watch won't unlock the Mac.

If I go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy the "Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac" option is not checked. If I check it, I get prompted to enter my account password (which I do). I then get the following message dialog:

When I go to the Apple Watch app on my iPhone and tap my watch's name I can see the "Find my Apple Watch" option which is working. Also if I log into iCloud in a browser I can find the watch so I know it's signed in.

I have tried unpairing the watch, restoring it from a backup and setting it up as a new watch but it stubbornly refuses to let me unlock my Mac. This is driving me nuts!

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks

You might have done this already, but if not, try signing out of iCloud and signing back in.

I've had similar issues in the past with things like iMessage that this has fixed.

Thanks! That worked for me. It just suddenly stopped working, and was driving me crazier than I already am.

I'll have to try this. My watch stopped signing my into my iMac a couple weeks back. It unlocks my laptop just fine. But it stopped completely on my iMac.

My Mac can’t even find my watch on the same network. It’s like it’s invisible. I’d love to try this feature.

And yeah, that’s one of my 5.0’s in my Avatar.
