iPod touch my apps. don't work on 2 new ipod touch's

I have a iphone and just got my twins both their own ipod touch and none of the apps work. We did it the same way as my phone, and they appear, but when touched, they come on for a second, then the desktop comes back. We tried 4 or 5 each touch, but neither open an app. Hard to think both are defective.

Anybody know why? My kids would appriciate any help

Try updating the firmware to the latest maybe it could be fixed by doing that.

I did it on itunes, and it said it was the lastest 2.2.
