MY CD Burner doesn't show up anymore on my macbook pro on ventura 13.4 M1 macbook pro 16" I have a USB Hub with my flat cd burner it use to work but I haven't used it for a long time now in the music app it says no burner or software found, Anyone know why it's not showing up it's getting power inserting a CD

Have you tried a different connecting cable?

Are the results the same if you insert a commercially-produced CD or DVD?

I have an external USB BD/DVD/CD player that sat around for quite a while with no use.
It started behaving erratically after not being used.

Interestingly enough, I have an OLD DVD/CD drive that I took out of a PC that was laying in the street, that STILL WORKS (unlike the newer one that doesn't)...

Well if there isn't any other reason why it shouldn't be recognized than it may be like you say That said it does spin a half second it takes in the cd and it ejects ok but possibly still have a internal problem

Have you used a good CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Disk Cleaner might be a good lens cleaner!

I haven't tried a cleaner but my burner has been in a box and free of dust

I tried it again and it recognized the burner once and I tried to burn after it asked for a blank disk it started spinning than I thought it was complete but came out no good
Tried again and again can't get it to recognize it again Screenshot 2023-06-10 at 2.40.38 PM.png

What happens if you connect directly to the Mac and not through a hub? Any difference?

just tried that no good, I bought the usb hub because they said you needed it to boost the cd burner

OP:

The problem with connecting some external USB DVD/CD burners "directly to the Mac" is that a single USB port will not provide enough "bus power" to run the drive. (these drives don't have an external power supply block)

This is why a "powered" hub can work (in some circumstances). It will send enough power into the drive to make it work properly.

Here's a suggestion:
Get a USB "Y" cable.
This has a USBa plug on one end, and TWO USBa plugs on the other end.
The single plug goes to the burner.
The double-end goes to TWO USB ports on your Mac.
Now the drive can draw power from BOTH USB ports, which should be enough to make it run and get the job done...

Of course you need a Hub to power the drive which my CD Burner use to work off of My macbook has no USB plugs ins I used a c-to usb to connect the burner to the macbook pro and nothing as usual
Like I said previously yesterday it showed it working once and than it didn't copy but the drive ejects and all
I'll probably bring it to my sisters and check to see if it's a working device when I have the chance
