A couple of the charges went through. Called the bank, and they've started the claim process. What a pain.

Happened to me twice. I'm sure from restaurant, hotel or brick and mortar store.

Amex both times. They called me each time with "unusual charges." Took them right off and had a new card the next day.

Amex has been good to me over the years.

When I bought my Macbook my bank rang me and said someone was buying something that was out of my normal pattern of purchases, so they wanted to check was it okay. It was shortly after my credit card had been nicked, along with my wallet and a couple of hundred quid while I was on holidays.

I was well impressed that they were watching out like that.

I have received calls like that from Credit Card Companies, but it has always been for things I did purchase (Including my Mac).

When I got my debit card, the bank took the time to tell my wife and I that when someone has a chance to walk away with your card, use a credit card. A thief getting into my line of credit is bad, but it would be a disaster if they got into my bank accounts directly.

I stopped using a debit card

We got nailed at a Costco gas pump. According to the letter from CostCo that we received the same day that we noticed the bogus charges, someone affixed a device to one of their gas pumps and captured a bunch of card number/pins.

Now we just use amex in place of a debit card and pay it each month. That way we don't have an issue with bogus charges hitting our checking account.

Excellent point.

So sorry that you are experiencing this. My friend's daughter is going through a similar situation.

There are places in hell for theives like these.

And this is the reason I no use my check card. I pay off my credit card in full each month so a check card and a credit card work out to be the same to me.

Also a credit card put a barrier between my money and my plastic. If some one steals my credit card I can and will contest the charges and my bank account is never effected. But if some one gets my check card my bank account is out the money until the case is finished.

Plus legally they are not protected as well as credit cards.

I still trying to let go of the check card and just put it in a draw never to be used. I have my AMEX and Visa to cover my plastic needs.

The thing I hate about check cards is how the my my monthly account statement look. There are a lot of little things hitting the account so it rather hard for me to track everything down. I personally find it real easy to see things out of place when my monthly statement has only 3-4 things a week showing up in (paycheck, weekly transfer to savings and then a bill of some type. It makes it real easy to find something that is out of place when very little shows up. The credit card I look it over and make sure everything looks in place.

Easy way for the credit card is I know what a normal month is for me and if it looked higher with out me knowing ahead of time it pretty easy to spot. Plus just look it over and look for things out of place.
