My DVDs onto my iPad (or Macbook Pro, for that matter)

I don't want to have to rent everything I watch from Netflix or the iTunes store. How do I make backups of DVDs I own, and put them onto my iPad?

DVDRemaster or Handbrake. Save as M4V file (for iPhone / AppleTV). Add via iTunes.

+1 for Handbrake. The presets that currently exist should work and they'll likely add an iPad preset as well.

Remember that if you use handbrake to rip your dvds, you will need to have VLC installed as well.

IMO, you should have VLC installed regardless of what media file types you might be encountering.

Thanks everyone. I downloaded the 32 bit versions of Handbrake and VLC. At first I think I had maybe incompatible versions, but things seem to be working now. I may have more questions if I goof up.
