I know it's probably futile with as published of an E-Mail as Steve's is, but I figured I'd send some comments and suggestions on a few Apple products to him. What do you guys think?

Hello Mr. Jobs,

I figured I'd take a minute to E-Mail you about a few improvements I think could be made to iPhoto, Aperture and Leopard. Let's start with iPhoto and Aperture:

* I was a PC user for a long time, and finally decided to make the switch about two years ago. When I switched, the first thing I did was import the burned CD and DVD backups I had made over the last several years of the digital photos I had. When I imported them, I noticed that the duplicate detection didn't work----iPhoto didn't seem to detect any of the duplicates that existed on the disk, despite the fact that they were exactly the same. Being that Aperture is a Pro product, I expected it to have better duplicate detection, but it didn't. I now have over 10,000 items in my iPhoto library that I have to manually sort through some day to remove the duplicates. There doesn't seem to be an elegant, integrated way of removing duplicates in iPhoto *or* Aperture. My suggestion is to add some kind of manual "Detect Duplicates" feature in iPhoto and Aperture, just like it is in iTunes. I imagine you could use the hash or checksum from the photos, or something along those lines.

* The second thing is in Leopard. I use a samba server to share files on my network to different devices. As far as I know, there is no way to automount a Samba share on bootup in Leopard without going through the trouble of writing an automator script. Windows has had this feature for years now, and it would definitely be a convenient add on for those of us who have to use Samba shares.

* Third, and last. Time Machine is a great product, but for those of us who use Macbook's and Macbook Pro's, it can be inconvenient to carry around an attached Firewire or USB disk. I realize that the Time Capsule was designed to address the need for wireless storage, but it's unfortunate to those of us who shelled out $2500 for a high end computer to have to buy another expensive item for the sole purpose of using time machine. I have a NAS Device already (Network Attached Storage) that uses Samba to share it's files, but Time Machine cannot use it. This was published as a feature of Leopard before it's release, but was removed prior to that due to some issues that I am not aware of. My suggestion would be to add Samba drives as an option to backup to in Time Machine, so that users without a Time Capsule can back up wirelessly as well.

Thank you very much for your time, and the great products you've helped to bring to the market. I am an ecstatic switcher and don't ever plan on going back.

From reading the info at the links above, I think you should definitely resubmit your ideas through the feedback.

That seems like the best way to submit feature requests if you hope to influence Apple's decision
on whether/when to implement.

It sounds like Apple will completely ignore your ideas if it isn't clear that you've relenquished ownership of them. I guess they want to avoid any possible ambiguity on whether ideas sent in are feature requests (where the submitter will be happy if Apple implements the idea) or busness proposals (where the submitter expects to be paid if Apple uses the idea). Yours are obviously feature requests, but if you don't submit through the approved channel, there's a good change it will go in to the "ignore" pile as soon as whoever is screening it sees any kind of product suggestion.

EDIT: Also, if you're going to email the SJ, couldn't you go for something BIG! Your requests are so reasonable (and boring) ;)

#2 - try mounting the share, then dragging it from the finder into your Login Items (system pref>accounts>login intems)
