I’m really liking the way things look at the moment. 😉

Actually , when I got this macbook I found out something , "Late”-2014 Macbook Pro’s are just rebranded Mid-2014’s !! kind of like how the 2017 Air is a rebranded 2015 Air , so you can still put Mavericks on those!!
Pause, you can put Mavericks on 2015 Airs? I thought those shipped with Yosemite! I have a 2017 MacBook Air, and would love to install Mavericks on it. Currently have a Mavericks-themed Yosemite install. (although i don't have any gui mods like traffic lights and window colors)

You can , but drivers would be very hard to get working ..
I meant that as in 2017 Airs are rebranded 2015 Airs, so you can get Yosemite on 2017 airs. Thats an amazing theme btw!! You should make a guide for it!!

Thanks! It's mostly replacing apps in Yosemite with the Mavericks counterparts. Many apps are interchangable, like Dock, Finder, Notification Center, Spotlight, Menu Extras, even apps like iTunes, Photo Booth, and Calculator. My main annoyances are the less-than-ideal menu bar gradient, Apple logo in the top left, and the fact that UI is unchanged from stock Yosemite. (The Mavericks lock screen would also be nice). The XRevert ArtFile.bin and SystemAppearance.car aren't much better. I don't have the skill to properly compile those files myself, and am unable to find proper ones already made on the web.

A couple years ago (2024), I began wanting to get an old Mac collection, and I got a 2010 Mac Mini from an ewaste store. Ever since I discovered older OS X versions, I wanted to try them out!

I hated the modern state of Windows (and still do), and Linux I can never make feel...comfy for my high standards. It always feels too out-there for me, I can never make it feel right. I eventually settled on OS X Mavericks, which I daily drove on and off for a while, but after I graduated high school in Late-2025, I went fully into it! And now I daily drive Mavericks on a Mid-2014 MacBook Pro! Granted yes I still use modern macOS (cough cough, Tah*e), but its strictly for work, on my work device.

After switching to Mavericks, everything just...clicks for me now. Nothing feels out of place, imperfect, or wrong, and it feels like new on even the oldest hardware Mavericks supports!! (i tried this on some of my 2009/2010 macs years ago) Granted yes there are things I still don't like about Mavericks, but you can change them here, such as the Notification Centre (replaced with Mountain Lion ver).

There is also the fact that such an old OS X version is usable in 2026, which is kinda funny since Mac versions tend to lose support almost instantly after Apple drops them, which is, at max, 3 years after release. Sure I do use older versions of programs (except Firefox, which is a modern backport called Firefox Dynasty), but it doesn't mess with my workflow at all! In fact its probably better because its not tied to some b.s. subscription.

There is probably more id like to talk about, but I might save it for another post under this thread. Feel free to post your thoughts and/or experiences on OS X Mavericks too!! If you want to do something like this, I highly, HIGHLY reccomend using websites like Mavericks Forever ( https://mavericksforever.com/ ) and the Macintosh Garden ( https://macintoshgarden.org/ ), as there are lots of Mavericks-compatable software, patches, etc!

Thank you for reading!! ♡♡
Nice looking OS. It's been a while since I used it but it was current when I was in high school. I miss the Aqua UI.

Being a MacPro1,1 with Mavericks Momiji crashes because of the CPU’s.
Using Nightly v140.10.0esr-mj (fix SIGILL with MacPro1,1/2,1/MBP 2008) I’m able to get online but DRM crashes. I now use Zorin15 with Chrome installed for all streaming and anything else the Nightly is not able to work with. I have folders shared from the Mac to Zorin and the default download folder for Chrome is set to my Downloads folder on the Mac. Hope this helps someone else that is trying to use OSX 10.9 on the old MacPro 1,1.
