How do I force OS X to look to see if there are any drives (like external drives) that it can connect to?

....

It's connected to my computer via USB 2.0. I've tried restarting 5 times. Nothing helps. *angry*

WTF. I've had this drive for like 2 days and it's already crapped out?

Guess I held my tongue just right.

Before I read your post, I tried opening the external enclosure up to see if anything was loose. Nothing was... :)

Then I plugged the cable back in and then the power and it worked.

:D

Why it was messed up we may never know. ;)
