I've hit my MacBook much harder then you probably do with application testing, Terminal usage, and system administration.

It has handled everything that I've thrown it at short of some rather large TIFF files I was working on. (That's a RAM problem anyways and soon to be resolved.)

I haven't encountered any problems like yours and I did have coconutBattery installed.

I got it from Amazon, so I actually have until 1/31 to return it.

I'd send it back to Apple for service. You have one year to do that!

Which argues against reinstalling OSX.

I suppose an archive and install isn't likely to hurt anything (unless the Mac kernel panics during the install process, which happens), but I think it's unlikely to help, either. On the risk/rewards scale I think this rates more risk than potential rewards.

The Kernel Panics are logged, but in case you can, just keep it on the kernal panic screen, and make appointment with / bring it in to apple store, along with original box and everything to do an exchange.
