Performa 600 all the way, baby!

I remember countless hours with the included Macintosh Demo Games CD, mucking with At Ease settings, and the interrupt button (anyone recall ever typing G FINDER when force quit would fail?).

Cheers!

Mine was a LC that I got from my college. I was already waaay out-of-date, but I got by. My first real purchase, though, was a G4 Sawtooth 450 MHz. It was with me until a couple of months ago when I sold it to my girlfriend, making it her first Mac.

First one in the house was a Classic II. First one that was actually mine wasn't too long ago, an 800 MHz iBook.

Since my father was an Apple Developer back in 1983 I was able to use many different Apple Computers. I started using computers when I was 7yrs old. Most of the following computers have been thrown to the landfill with the exception of a few. Here goes:

*Apple IIe (the first computer I used and learned on. Played Karataka all the time on this machine!)
*Apple IIc (this was my personal computer my dad gave me. I remember playing games on the green screen)
*Lisa 1 & 2 (never liked them but my father’s team used them to write programs for the upcoming Mac)
*Mac 128k (I remember my dad receiving these by UPS one day. He got a bunch of them and I remember how weird they looked compared to my IIc. I also remember the day it blew up! My dad thought I did it and started yelling at me but when another unit did the same he realized there was something wrong. It was a power supply issue, ahhhh Mac Paint and Chess were my favorites)
*Mac 512k (Never got to use it much, these were my dad’s main computers for his biz)
*Mac Plus
*Mac SE (to this day I still have it and it still works with the old Apple Imagewriter! I used this until 1993)
*Macintosh Quadra 650 (this is what I used mainly in high school up until freshman year in college. The last Apple I used before going the Windooze route)

In 1995 I abandoned Macs as a whole in favor of Windows. I remember in college they had a few Power Mac’intosh’ styles running OS 8 and I thought it was a joke compared to Windows. In 2000 a good friend of mine bought his first Powermac G4. As much as I loved the way the thing looked I hated OS 9. I thought it was a joke compared to Windows ME. Later that year he bought a Powerbook G3 and I remember this was the first time I’d ever heard of “firewire”. My friend used these computers up until last summer 2004! He bought a PowerMac G5 as he is a graphic designer. He was able to sell his Powerbook G3 at a fair price (crazy) and invest that towards a 12” iBook G4. When I witnessed OS X 10.3 I was hooked.

After 9 years of using Windows I came back to the Mac! It can only get better now!

400MHz iMac DV. My ex's grandmother won £20k on the the state lottery and passed it on to her family. We bought that. When she left she left the iMac.

Was a Apple SE. I still have the little guy.

How about everyone else? What was your first Mac?
Please excuse me, yet I'm confused by that. Do you mean Macintosh SE? I don't remember an Apple SE, but maybe they had such a model outside the USA.

My first Mac was a Macintosh. The very first original release version. I jumped on the Macintosh ride right from the very start. I was an Apple II (among others) user prior to Macintosh. I think that first Macintosh is referred to as the 128k model version. I had mine upgraded various times until it ended up as a Macintosh Plus. I tried holding on to that one as a collectors item because of all the signatures inside the case, yet I have not seen it in years, so I am guessing I sold it or lost it during one my several moves over the past several years. I think it ran System 7 from an external SCSI Hard Drive. Wow, that brings back some memories. I still have a bunch of System 7 era (early 1990s) software and books, if anyone is interested, please PM me to let me know.

my first Experince with macs was on a apple I. the first mac i owned was a Apple II.Sacear, i thought that it was only a rumor or myth that the Mac 128k had signatures. i did not think it actually had them inside the case. cool

First Mac I had: Performa 5200 the "all in one" (I gave it to a friend after 2 months because I got me a B&W G3)
First Mac I used: Powermac 8200 200MP (not sure about the 8200 type but it was a 200Mhz Dual) at the studio I used to work for (got replaced in 6 months with a G4 Dual 500 because I started to complain about the lack of speed :p)

I think this was regarding the Macintosh SE, no need to get worked up about it :D .

I got the upgrade from you: Performa 630CD. My mom still uses it to this date, and works just as great as the day we got it back in '94 :) . Here are the specs if you are interested.

Same here, except I got it from my uncle who's a teacher. His school was about to throw it out (   ), but he managed to save it and give it to me. The original 64mb RAM is now upped to 576mb, and it's now running Tiger. It was My first iMac, and I only got it a week ago :)

My first was a sawtooth G4 - absolutely rock-solid on OS9.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to install OSX or Linux on it for some reason. The installers would always crash. Once, I actually finished an install of OSX (10.2), but it was unusable due to kernel panics.

I tried everything I could think of - swapping hard-drive, swapping DVD drive, pulling non-apple memory, zapping pram, etc. Nothing helped.

I'd still be using that machine for something today if OSX were installable; instead I donated it to a museum that still runs OS9 on all their Macs.

I'm more than happy with my PowerBook and new PowerMac, for sure.
:)

I think my elementary school went all Mac when the first macintoshes were released... and my highschool was one of the first businesses to go all apple wireless. We had a ton of clamshell ibooks and imacs. My first personal was an iMac last gen CRT before they released the LCDs. I kicked myself for that one. Missed the release by only a few short months. Now I am running whats in my sig.

Okay, I'm just trying to figure this out. The first Macintoshes were released in 1984-1985. Apple wireless came out in 2000. Fifteen years is a long time to get from elementary school to high school.

Let me clarify.
My highschool went wireless my senior year 1999/2000. I am not exactly sure what computers my elementary school was using, I just remember that they were macs. Probably late eighties early nineties machines. First gen mac was a bad guess. :p
