I'm going to buy my first ever Mac today, a 20'' model. I will use it mainly for domestic works (internet, office, musics, photos,...)

Is the 2.66Ghz iMac worth the price over the 2.4Ghz model? Also will the graphic card in the 2.66Ghz make a really difference?

Or it is a good idea to save $300 and put 4GB RAM in a 2.4GHz model?

Thank you!

The performance difference between the 2.4 and 2.66 20in iMacs is negligible in domestic use. 2x2GB (4GB) DDR2 800 iMac ram is about $50 if you upgrade it yourself.

If there is an Apple store in your area, you might want to attend a switcher's seminar. You can even bring your old PC in and they'll help you migrate your data, and recycle your PC if you like.

I live in Brazil. There is no apple stores here, just authorized stores.

I do not care about processor (2.66GHz x 2.4GHz) and Hard Drive. About RAM I will upgrade it to 4GB if I buy the model with 1 GB.

My mainly doubt is about graphic card (256MBx128MB). I do not play games on computer but I am afraid of it will make a big difference. :(

Don't worry. You'll be fine with the base. I promise. Its a gorgeous machine and you will get years of good use from it. It plays games like World of Warcraft with no problems too.

Then...the savings of $300 (comparing with 2.66GHz) worth, right?

Of course I will put 4GB of RAM.

If I upgrade myself the memory in my computer for 4GB...could I lost the guarantee of AppleCare?

Installing ram will not void your warranty, but your Apple warranty will not cover your new ram. Almost all ram has a lifetime warranty though. No worries.

Thank you.

I have the 2.4 Ghz, base model iMac, it's fast. The graphics are surprisingly good considering the whole computer was only $1,199.

Your going to love your Mac, by the way. You'll never go back to windblows! :)

Congrats on soon owning your first Mac. You will not regret it. BTW, we still have a G5 iMac with Leopard among our computers - and it does a lot of real work each and every day. Have fun!
