I haven't seen this mentioned...

And... "The bottom of your Apple portable may become very warm during normal use. If the computer is on your lap and gets uncomfortably warm, remove it from your lap and place it on a stable surface..." from...

As Sesshi says, "er, duh!"

haha that's funny. The solution to their design getting too hot is just don't put it on your lap! LOL!

Wish it was as simple as removing a plastic strip :) I think it has to do with the MB design and C2D chips. My single core Dell Inspiron 700m runs great without the overheating problem. Hope they come out with a revised MB design soon and I can sell my Blackbook and upgrade.

Well, I like OS X. I wouldn't buy this macbook. I just find Mac hardware disappointing. Shame the OS is so great , but the hardware is kinda lackluster...

Agreed!!!

Agreed??? So, even if something is apparently inadequate, irrelevant, or just plain stupid you should still dresss it well, "sugar-coat" it ((c) Sesshi ;-), and make a small dance of good manners about it? Waste your time, in the end of the day, just to make it digestible?.. You must be kidding... On the other hand, when we start caring that much about the looks trading it for the specs, I would expect even something more superficial...

Anyway, I gather that if somebody with his/her knowledge backed up with solid experience is prepred to share it (like Sesshi is apparently doing) it is most reasonable and recomended to try to learn something usefull from it rather than unnecessarily concentrating on the dressing. No "arrogance and unnecessary rudeness" can "just detract" an open mind "from your credibility".

Was it Eleanor Roosevelt who was saying: "Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people."

Beeing perfectly conscious of what category I am falling into :)

PS 2 Cybergypsy: my "you"s and "your"s (if there are any) are most impersonal, so, don't misinterpret them, please. I've just picked up a post with a comment relevant to the irritating mater.

next macbook revision will get santa rosa for sure...

this is because macbook pro will get penryn when that gets released early next year. they will probably get macbook one step behind from now (a pity really, so nice when macbook came out with latest intel cpu).

the most annoying thing about apple is, as everyone says, it does provide a little less than others hardware wise, charges more for it, but still manages to seduce you with osx and beautiful designs and overhype marketing. Its actually really annoying. it wouldn't really be that hard for them to get it right.

but its a business model that works for them. same thing with ipods etc.
I think in the end, it will back fire.. once they become a huge empire, they will start to crumble and lose their ingenuity

btw,

i haven't got an apple yet. waiting till next macbook revision at end of year..

been a pc user since 286's when I was little kid. and first played with recent macs when we bought my mum a macbook. absolutely loved it. everything about it is cool. the osx, the design - it oozes style.

I don't care if its a little heavy, or doesn't have latest santa rosa etc (although i would prefer it) - same with gpu (although would prefer that too).
The thing is cool enough (and I don't mean culturally cool) that I want one regardless of what it doesn't have. i had so much fun playing with it, haven't felt that way about a computer for a long time.

in terms of design, its only been recently that other companies are getting close to apple (but still can't manage it, even that asus lamborgini stuff).
apple is definitely one of the main players responsible for improving quality of design and user experience to the electronic world.
(not just talking about laptops, most of their products)

Out of interest, how thick is the Dell Inspiron 700M, and what is the CPU speed?
