OpenBSD is extremely clean, very thoroughly documented, and pretty secure.
I am tempted to give it a shot!

If you have a spare machine, it's worth a shot. It's a good operating system to know because you can do a lot with it. It's equally at home on my laptops as it is on my router. Just don't expect miracles with performance or hardware support. I'd be willing to lend a hand if you get stuck.
I am tempted to give it a shot on my 15" PowerBook but unfortunately, it is the machine I use for a daily driver PPC as well as development on a little project I am working on.
I have the exact same model and love it. It sees a ton of use.
Yes. You can go ahead and use the easy installer I made for eyoungren's tweaks.
The point of the tweaks/addons I made/installed for TenFourFox is not for faster page loads.Thank you!
I'd like to try it on my late 12" sometime.PowerPC may not be the best system to learn it on anyway. i386 and amd64 are far better supported and will likely give you fewer headaches. If you really want to try it and don't have a spare machine, send me a PM

Yes, that is ultimately the end result and is what I am trying to achieve. However, what the tweaks/addons modify is how a page is processed. If the page loading process is optimized then CPU load is reduced. When CPU load is reduced the page is loaded quicker and is more responsive. So the ultimate goal is just how quickly these tweaks/addons can reduce CPU load back to normal - not how fast they can load a page.
You asked about image heavy pages. There is no specific tweak that deals with loading images (except to load them or not). But, optimizing the page loading process with these tweaks will in turn increase the speed of loading images.
My point in mentioning all of this is so that you understand that the browser treats a page as a whole entity - thus there is nothing that will specifically target what you were asking about.
Do you have the Rich Text Editor (RTE) off? It uses Javascript and is always "on" (if you have it on) thus hitting CPU, which slows down typing (as well as other processes). The RTE option is in your MR user account preferences.I checked out your thread and have made a few adjustments, loads of great advice. Definitely seeing improvements with the pipelining turned on. Is there any way to decrease lag when typing on MacRumors?

Me too. I've tried ubuntu a while back and didn't get anywhere. If BSD supports a 12" powerbook I'd like to try running it. Is there an install guide somewhere?
... it does better than my G4 Mini...
