Hello,

I'd like to purchase my first MacBook for school in September. I am a web developer/designer/photograhper as well. I've heard extremely positive things about the rMBP so I decided to ditch Windows and move on.

I'd like to purchase the following MacBook for $1700 CAD (TAX INCLUDED).

Refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Dual-core Intel i5 with Retina Display
Originally released October 2013
13.3-inch (diagonal) Retina display; 2560-by-1600 resolution at 227 pixels per inch
8GB of 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB Flash Storage1
720p FaceTime HD camera
Intel Iris Graphics

Just wondering if it's a good buy in terms of performance and price. Thanks!

Though I'd point out that you can get this year's version of that same machine (so +200mhz) for the same price if you happen to be in an area where you don't pay taxes with one of the common 3rd party retailers (Amazon, MacMall, B&H all have it for $1710 right now).

I live in Canada, would that deal still apply here? Thanks!

Ah, sorry, I saw $ and assumed US. The tax thing I referenced is a specific quirk of US sales tax procedure.

When I was assuming USD I thought $1700 sounded too high for the refurb, but considering the exchange rate between CAD/USD that sounds about right, I'd say it's a good choice.

Haha no worries! Sorry I forgot to mention the currency 🙂
