The safari Page reload is so random but yet so invasive. I agree with others that it must have to do with ram but for switching back and forth between webpages it's really annoying.

The shift key placement and smaller a key need to be rethought. Why not make the a as long as the return /send key, it's just blank space anyway.

Ambient lighting could be better. I will probably turn this off because in low like it's constantly trying to figure it out and gives screen flicker.

Interesting about the keyboard keys. My issue is that the [X] (delete) key is in the upper right, like a real keyboard. However, the same key on the iphone keyboard is lower right. So I've gotten quite used to is being there on soft keyboards!

The first two I agree with completely! They really need to address Safari page reloads before OS4 in the Fall. They should also switch the shift and number/symbol keys on one side of the keyboard, and let the user pick which side. Better yet, give us full customizable keyboards!

The last one I haven't noticed on my iPad, but I had the same problem with my 1g touch, so not surprised.

Also, the autocapitalization of "I" only works about half the time and drives me NUTS!

The safari page reload thing hasn't really affected me, since I don't really like having multiple pages open, although I know some live and die by surfing the web that way.

I would like to see the shift key on the right side changed to an apostrophe key, just because personally I never use the right side shift, but that's just the way I type I guess.

Just turn off the automatic screen brightness and problem 3 is solved.

It's a minor gripe of mine but I agree that safari reload needs revamping

I'm one of those multi tab people. That's really my serious only complaint about the iPad so far.

Although I also agree hat an apostrophe/quotation mark key on the right side would be nice. Hm. Ok, so let's say big shift on the left, apostrophe/quote on the right, small numbers/symbols key on the left, large one on the right, and move the hide keyboard key into the dead space on the top bar with the rev/next keys.

I'm a huge multipage/tab person. What is the Safari reload thing?
    FYI, haven't bought an iPad.

Basically, once you run out of available ram, windows you have open in Safari get 'unloaded' so when you switch back them they have to reload. This happens when you have more than 3 or 5 pages, or sometimes even less if the page is very memory hungry (lots of big images or JavaScript). It sucks. iPad is good for reading the web, but not great for researching the web.

That is unfortunate. And yet 4.0 it can multitask?!?

Well, if you look at how Apple implemented multitasking it makes more sense. Only one app can still run at a time, other apps have a save state service available that removes them from memory and loads them back as they were when you switch. The backgrounding tasks are limited to basically the same services that Apple already does in the background with their built in apps (play audio, popup alert dialogs, etc) so won't really be taking up much more memory than is already used by the OS.

It would be nice if Safari used a similar save state system for pages being unloaded so they came back just as they were (text entered still there, new content not being refreshed, etc). I suspect they will do SOMETHING like this in a future update because its going to be a bit of an issue for the best web browsing experience ever. ;)

All this said, I should mention that I really like the iPad and have been using it nonstop for the last 6 days! It has flaws, but I think they can all be overcome and will be fixed in updates to come.

I think a Tab key is definitely lacking. I almost reach for it out of habit and realize its not there. :(

Apostrophe needs to be in the same keyboard face as the letters. So annoying...

Hah I thought I was the only one! The bugs in the auto-capitalization are very annoying indeed!

I wonder why it doesnt cache browser windows on the device memory? Assuming you have enough storage available.

Just hold the "," key for a second, it shifts to an apostrophe.

You can also do the slide trick to access punctuation, tap the .?123 button and slide your finger to the symbol you want. When you lift your finger, you get the alpha keys again.

I think that some pages have JavaScript reload, "no cache" directives, or other reasons they want to reload. Some pages seem to always reload even if I have very little open. Other times I'll have 5 or 6 "tabs" open and never have them refresh. In fact, it was a couple days before I noticed the refresh thing.

I'm on a fast 802.11n network, so it hasn't really been an issue to me.

I dislike the 'undo' key... well, at least how big it is.

    Love it otherwise.

Don't have an iPad but have been running into issues on using my iphone with a bandaid on the tip of my finger. It just doesn't work. I was trying to pinch a web page for a while before I realized that the bandaid was preventing the screen from recognizing my finger.

    Yep..I'm with him. Same-Same.

What about a 'caps lock' key? In my work I use a lot of acronyms (UHMW, PET, PEEK)..so I need a caps lock. It was ok on the iPhone but I am using the iPad much more and actually doing some light office work.

You can double tap the shift key to turn on caps lock if you have the setting enabled under Keyboards.

    No. 1

Have to agree with this more than any other. Makes it harder to adjust to screen typing.

White apple Bluetooth keyboard is a no go too. My typing on the screen is not approaching regular capability. Not sure it will happen but trying to get at least half speed.

Folding Bluetooth keyboards here I come.
