Is it possible I messed something up in the settings, or are other people being affected by this as well? I load the page, and displays some posts in the usual list, but it doesn't auto-update like it used to. I refresh the page and more posts appear, but I shouldn't have to do that. Sorry for creating so many threads today, but I had a few issues :D

Have you tried logging out and logging back in?
Closing your browser and restarting it?
Clearing the cache?
You know, the usual browser type things

Have you reset your browser yet?

Yes. I'll do it again though.

UPDATE: Restarted and reset my browser, cleared the cache, logged in/back out again, and it still doesn't do anything. Might it have something to do with the forums I've configured not to show?

Ya, Forum Spy has some funky-looking behavior if you have a lot of forums excluded. It shows 60 posts at a time as it live updates, but if you exclude forums, it doesn't just show you 60 posts from the non-excluded forums. It takes the normal, unfiltered 60 posts and simply hides the ones from forums on your exclusion list.

So if you've hidden a lot of forums, particularly the very active ones like the iPhone forums, you'll notice a lot fewer than 60 posts showing on Forum Spy. And if the only forums you have non-excluded have relatively low posting rates, it might seem like Forum Spy isn't working at all. :)

Possible explanation:

I'll take a crack at a possible explanation based on what I remember from an answer Knox gave me a while back about this. My numbers are estimates.

This happens whenever posts are being submitted in rapid succession on forums that you have excluded in your spy preferences. I think by default, without any exclusions, forum spy displays 50-ish posts or 15 minutes worth, whichever comes first. When loads of posts are being submitted in your excluded forums those 50-ish posts are merely being hidden, so you're only seeing a few minutes worth of posts from forums you have INcluded.

I'm hoping that makes sense/is correct.

I noticed it yesterday too. I laughed when I only had 4 posts displayed in forum spy. I only exclude about 15 forums, your 56 made me giggle.

When the forums are positively buzzing with posts, such as on update days, keynotes, etc, I think it's typically better to just enter the specific forums you're interested in rather than rely on the spy.

Very close to being exact There's no time limit, just a 60 post limit, and as you hinted at, the phenomenon will be more prominent when you have lots of excluded forums and/or the forums are busier than normal (there were more posts yesterday than even keynote day last week).

Yeah, I think I'll stop using Forum Spy, like iBlue said in that thread. Usually I only visit a few forums here anyway. Thanks!

UPDATE: Yay, it seems to be working okay now.
