My Four Loko home brew: '55 Loko'

So has anyone tried this drink?

I'm struggling to find it in the UK and me and a housemate are pretty set on just making our own some time in the next few weeks.

If anyone has made their own four loko, please, share tips, we'd love our creation to be kick ass from the start.

Oh and FYI: We're aware this is probably a really stupid thing to do (given all the bad press 4L's got) but finishing uni in a couple months is kinda scary, and I don't feel as though I've done anything legen-wait for it-dary yet.

EDIT: For those wanting to create your own DIY Four Loko, here's our concoction:

The 55 Loko (Named after our infamous house)

1 x Monster 'Ripper'
1 x Crest Super Premium Lager (10%)
2 x Pro Plus tablets
5 x Jolly Ranchers
2 x shots of high strength vodka (50%)
1 x shot of flavoured cordial (optional/adds extra flavour)

Note: The Jolly Ranchers need to be left in the drink (refrigerating helps) for around 6-12 hours to fully disintegrate.

If you do try it, post how it came out.

I agree, to a point. This single drink has recently "been responsible" they say for several deaths - but there again, they don't factor in the stupidity of the one drinking it.

And the press makes no big deal about Jäger bombs, which are basically the same thing.

I don't drink those energy/alcoholic energy drinks because every single time I do, it knocks my immune system down and I get sick.
 
maybe just do some vodka and red bull? or any other combo of alcohol + caffeine.

Anyways, I like the drink
 
I've had it twice in the past couple of weeks. The first time I had already had beer and both the watermelon flavor and the lemonade flavor were palatable.
That night I continually texted a friend who I hadn't talked to in months and my neighbor who had suggested the 4loco locked himself outside his apt (supposedly for several hours) while half naked. He also doesn't remember several hours of the ordeal.

The second time I drank it with another group of my neighbors while sober. We split the can between 3 of us. This second time the lemonade flavor tasted like malt-liquor with a strong lemony bathroom-cleaner finish, it was horrible.

4 loco tastes horrible but will get you drunk. I'd place it slightly above Cisco in the bumwine/poor-gradschool-student pantheon of bad choices.

ps. just drink vodka and red-bull, it tastes slightly better and you'll know how much you've had to drink.
 
It will get you drunk. had it at school one night and it was all down hill from there. was the first thing that i had and could not remember most of the night. the effect of the alcohol does not set in so you keep drinking than it hits you like a ton of bricks. its the drink if you dont want to remember the night. Lloyd
 
I had to chime in on here, I drink these normally. :) 1 will get you buzzed, 2 will get you piss drunk, 3 and you're gone lol.

my understanding is it has more caffeine and alcohol per can than a normal red bull and vodka mixture.
Also red bull and vodka you have to make yourself. This comes pre made and strong as hell.

Friggin' kids these days. Back in my day, we got black-out drunk the old fashioned way - Jager bombs!

I can't stand Jager to this day because of those. I also can't stand tequila because it gave me the worst hangover I ever had.

Just try tequila shots. You can get tequila cheap. Or try a malt liquor or high quality fortified wine like MD 20/20 or Night Train.
 
The reasoning I've heard for it's danger is that the caffeine makes a drunk person more on edge and prone to dumb activities. It also makes one less aware of their motor skill impairments.
 
I've been wondering about 4 Loko for a while since i read about it in a thread here and have since be hearing about it in the news. Pre-mixed drinks like this have always been around where I live (maybe not in such big cans) and also received a lot of attention from the media; so much so that the government introduced an alco-pops tax that increased their price to try and reduce the amount of people who drunk them, particularly teen binge drinking.

Goon (cheap wine) bags are what most people drink around here when they want a night of craziness. Goon bags can be as cheap as $10 for 20+ standard drinks. And recently Voon (Vodka and orange) bags have become pretty popular lately.

Personally I like to stick to good ol beer and vodka redbull, jager bombs, tequila shots, squashed frogs and burbon and coke.

4Loko is so dangerous not only because it gets you **** faced, but because the high amounts of caffeine temporarily mask the effects of the alcohol. Most people will have one, barely feel anything, and continue to drink more or take shots. Then, when the caffeine wears off, you either black out or have alcohol poisoning, or both... or you just die. lol

Oh, is that what happens? Most people drink one and either die or get alcohol poisoning?

Not going to lie...it sounds stupid.

Caffeine raises your heart rate, while alcohol slows it down...which would make sense that it'd be at a normal rate right? Not really...It confuses your heart, so it beats too fast or too slow, your heart effectively doesn't know what to do.
 
"Blackout in a can" drinks have grabbed headlines across the country in recent weeks after nine college students in Washington state were hospitalized after drinking quantities of Four Loko and similar beverages off-campus.
