before saying there is no way to find it hear me out my girlfriend is in NYC receiving chemo treatments at a hospital because she has cancer yesterday her iphone was stolen and now someone turned it off this is all she had left she comes from a very poor family and now her life was pretty much on that phone i don't care if its illegal or legal at this point i don't care if the thief gets caught i just want her iphone back there has to be a way to track it someone please help me

Maybe an appeal to the thief via several mediums; internet, TV (news crews are just looking for this type of story), newspaper and radio. It wouldn't hurt to setup a website for a few months. Sorry to hear about your GF's health condition, but there are other ways to have the iPhone replaced and then activate the iPhone from her previous backup, (that's if she backed everything up on a regular basis)...:(

On a contract?

Most thieves are idiots and tend to get sloppy with technology. Good example is a thieve who didn't realise the owner's MobileMe account was still active when he started adding new contacts..

If you took this story to the news im fairly sure you'd have enough money to buy a new iPhone and maybe more pretty soon. Start a facebook group, myspace group, website, paypal donation account etc to get your message out there. This is so wrong but i guess the theif didn't know your gf's situation.

My friend as a joke made a website and opened a paypal donation thingy saying he would kill a kitten if he didn't get 1 million $$$, people actually donated suprisingly, but nowhere near $1 mil :p so there is some hope for you. As for recovering the phone there isnt anything you can do other than get it blocked by the service provider.

upper east mantahhan or near empire state building

and it was fully charged so someone turned it off

If it's stolen, and you know her whole life is now on that phone, be a nice boyfriend and buy her a new one. I'm sure she'll adore you and it for the rest of her life!

cuz i dnt have $500

start a fundraising event, borrow money, or whatever.

did your gf back up her iphone via iTune?

if you love your gf, you'll find a way to get a new one for her.

you can always get an iphone for 200$ for yourself, cancel the contract in 30 days and keep the phone. give it to your gf.

is her iphone 3g or original iphone?

The problem I see is she had an iPhone 3g and came from a poor family. Can we say living beyond her means? Sounds like she needs to get a cheap phone with prepaid service.

And to the others that suggested to start a fund raising event...are you serious? Would you help someone get a top of the line phone that requires a hefty monthly bill at a fund raising event? I guarantee you guys that there are a million other people I'd rather help first than to help someone replace a phone of all things.

first of all she got it as a gift for having cancer second of all they are not dirt poor

She lost her phone, it's not going to be found. If she can't afford a replacement, then she should be looking for a cheap phone replacement (since you said she is "very poor").
