I am the biggest iPad fan there is and have generally always bought the latest and greatest. I made an exception with the iPad Air 2 because it was such a great machine but I sold it 6 months ago in anticipation of the new iPad Pros. I was convinced on getting the new 11" Pro but last year changed my viewpoint when I got a used and unlocked 128GB iPhone 7 Plus with AppleCare+ for only $550. I literally saved over $500 just by waiting a year.

After having my jaws hit the floor after seeing the new iPad pricing structure, I decided to try my luck on eBay. As long as I got an iPad with AppleCare+, I would only have to pay a $49 deductible in order to get a brand new refurbished unit in the event the iPad broke or the screen got cracked. So I really didn't care if I got a used but mint condition iPad.

After seeing all the completed auctions on eBay, my jaws hit the floor again. They are practically giving away the 10.5 models. I ended up getting a 256GB LTE model and it came bundled with AppleCare+, an Apple Pencil (spare tip unused), like new Smart Keyboard, brand new Leather Smart Cover, and like new Apple Leather Sleeve for just under $595. All of this at retail would cost over $1600 and if it were the new 11" Pro, it would be over $1800. In fact just the Smart Keyboard, Apple Pencil, Leather Portfolio, and AppleCare+ costs $520 brand new, not even including the 256GB LTE iPad Pro!

I don't even consider this a "steal" in the sense that I wasn't the "only" lucky one, tons of people are selling these Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard, and 10.5 Pro bundles for around $575. I guess I did get lucky in scoring a Leather Smart Cover and Leather Sleeve for pennies on the dollar.

I have been watching quite a few similar deals at similar and even lower prices than the OP. I may end up buying one of these soon myself.

Yeah now is a great time to buy the 10.5" iPad Pro as the market is flooded with people trying to sell theirs.

Just like how when the XS models were announced, the market was flooded with people trying to sell their iPhone X's and you could get them for quite a bargain.

I try to be 1-2yrs behind with most of my tech these days. You save a ton of money, you avoid most of the early adopter bugs, it's greener. Also, I find bargain hunting to be sort of fun.

Not just Apple stuff either. Gaming: I am just now thinking about getting an Xbox One, been playing the Xbox 360 since the One launched - picked that up for $200 for the E model and games are $5-$10 on ebay or amazon in good condition. Some of the earlier Xbox One games are getting down there now too. HT receiver: no need to get a brand new one when refurbs or one year used can be had for much less. Laptops: same.

The only tech I bought recently brand new was a TV... nearly everything else I get used/refurbished.

I agree that markets get flooded and drive prices down when a new model hits, but with the iPhones you are probably saving around 40%. With these iPad Pros, because so many people bought them with expensive accessories they no longer need ($160 Smart Keyboard, $70 Smart Cover, $99 Pencil), it is driving the prices down even more where you're saving practically 65%.

I just can't justify getting the new iPad Pros and spending $1800 vs $600 just for half an inch of extra screen space and FaceID.

I bought a 256GB LTE 10.5 with ASK and pencil for $500 in August, because I figured Apple would raise prices when they announced the new models. Still under 1yr warranty so no complaints from me. This would’ve cost about $1,150 before taxes if purchased new.

This is the exact reason why I did not sell my 10.5” and passed it down to the wife lol. Resale value was brutal for the packages bundled with apple accessories. Made more sense to just keep it in the family and use it for years to come.

I did the same, a lot of good years left for the 10.5 in my family.

You should see the resell value of Apple watch, pitiful. I couldn't even get $300 for my SS 42mm series 3 6 months ago, so I decided to just keep it and not upgrade.

I sold my first generation iPad Pro 12.9” for $600 yesterday with the Apple Pencil and keyboard. Not that bad after over 2 years of use.

I think getting a second hand 10.5” model may be a better idea than getting the new 11” model. The sizes are similar and the prices are cheaper.

If I wanted a small iPad Pro I would do just that.

You got a great deal. I dont see any completed listings from eBay that compare to your deal.

You think they’re giving away the 10.5s, what about the 9.7 Pros? I sold my 9.7 128gb, wi-fi with ASK, silicone case, Smart Cover, Pencil, and an Logi CREATE keyboard/case for $500. Ouch. But, Apple wanted $175 for the iPad, so I guess it was better than a kick in the groin.

I think this is one of the biggest downsides of Apple products: they depreciate way too quickly. I have a 10.5 that is 8 months old, covered under Applecare with a TON of accessories and people have been offering ridiculously low prices for the bundle that is worth over $1600 brand new. 8 months should not drop $1000 from value. The yearly cycle makes their core upgraders have to really stop and think. I haven't upgraded my 8+ iPhone for that reason -- it's better to wait until you absolutely have to. Now I'm considering just returning my 11" and sticking with my 10.5 as I am unwilling to eat the cost that fast.

While resell prices on iPad's aren't great, Apple products in general have much better resell than any other tech manufacturer.

I couldn't justify the insane prices of the new models either so I bought a 1st Gen 12.9. I'm fine with staying a couple years behind on iPads but I really wanted to try a 12.9 up from the 5th Gen 9.7 I bought last year.

I got a mint 1st Gen 12.9 128GB LTE model with Apple Pencil and case for $485. I then sold my 5th gen for $220.
