way too much to read without falling asleep.....

can someone sum that up for me in a paragraph or two?

I can sum it up for u in Chinese ESL.
'he had the bad day. he go QQ'

but yea too long for me as well :)

Apple Store geniuses are tech support not customer service. Most are under thirty and at most have minimum CS training. I think it's a bad business model to have tech guys/gals handling complaints. They are not used to dealing with customers on a sales level. They are there to verify problems with equipment.

If you want CS go directly to management. They are there to make sure the customers are happy. If not, take it to their managers. Apple is constantly rated high for CS so they will do their best to help you.

I have had several iphones replaced for various legitimate reasons. I find that typically you should do your homework on the issue, always try a hard reset (holding home and sleep/wake button for a while), and restore and set up as a new phone. Additionally I always try and provide evidence of the issue. For instance when my first 3g was randomly dropping signal from full 3g to one bar of grps then go back within 30 seconds I would take a screen shot. I have had exceptional results with apple care over the phone and the genius bar, I have always received a replacement phone.

Good Lord man. That many replacements? Judging from your post, you are always going to somehow manage to find a defect. When you do find the perfect phone, you had better wrap it in plastic and store it in drawer for safe keeping.

It's just a cell phone. Stop looking for problems.

Too long to read? You two are kidding, right?

no.

i only care about someone else's problems with a particular customer service experience enough to devote about 2 short paragraphs worth of reading time to it.

if someone was to tell me a story about a secret agent investigating the shooting down of an airliner then that'd be worth devoting more time to reading, but customer service experiences? no, that's why there isn't a book at the top of the charts called "my experience at the genius bar".

I showed them the cuts on my face and said "I have really come to expect much more from Apple, your product is hurting me ... I don't enjoy that". After talking to a manager I was given a replacement.

You were being humored. The back of the phone was cutting your face? You're likely the only person to ever use that as an excuse to get a replacement.

My thoughts exactly.

As long as there is one perfect example out there, any of us should have the right to expect a perfect phone. If manufacturing specs are so loose as to allow such a huge variation in build quality, they need to tighten up the specs, even if it means losing some of that HUGE profit margin they make on these things.

And then I woke up.

Seriously, though, I wouldn't feel any guilt about being mad at having light leaks and dust under the screen, let alone a phone that cuts your face. Also, regarding your experience at the one Apple Store, you should let "corporate" know about it. We have two stores in our area, and at one time, there was a marked difference in attitude between them. That cleared up when the "bad" one changed managers.

OP: did you get your refurbed phone through AT&T? I got the 1st generation iphone from them, and the unit i received was absolutely crap. It showed 1 bar of signal wherever I went, even inside the apple store! I was told at the apple store that AT&T do not bother to inspect or test the returned units before sending them out. I got a replacement right away and had not had problem since.

Yah, you're right... It was pretty ridiculous of me to be disappointed in Apple for releasing a product that would actually harm it's customers... It was very much my fault seeing as I took perfect care of my phone and the cracks are a well known issue, I should have expected them and kept the phone away from my face. Who wants their phone by their face now-a-days anyway?

Spot on. The iPhone Refurb I received from AT&T had finger smudges on it and was obviously just restored and repackaged. Search my previous threads and you'll find one about what is actually entailed in an AT&T refurb process, it's quite humorous.

Very picky apple user complaining about things or "problems" that probably 30-50% of iphone users have but learn to just deal with.

Also upset about genius bar refusing to replace his iphone every time something very minor pops up.

Maybe I'm missing something but how the hell do you get cuts on your face from cracks on the plastic back of the phone?

What were you doing with it, using it to exfoliate???

I think people should start accepting the fact that quality of 3G and 3GS is not up to par with original iPhone. Exchanging 8 times for 0.001mm off center screen, 1/100th inch raised bezel etc.. no wonder geniuses are being fed up with nitpickers. Stop abusing the Apple's generous exchange policy. Try Samsung or Nokia with such issues, they will laugh at your faces.

BTW, this is not at all directed toward OP. It's just my 2c.
