My Hoya filter has come apart

Hi,
Hoping to get some help or advice. My son dropped my Hoya HMC circular polarizing filter and the lens snapped out of it. The lens is okay, but I can't figure out what kept it in the ring. I did find a rubber band type thing on the floor and wonder if that is what kept it in. Could I use a very thin bead of silicone to re-attach it? Or must I return it to company for repairs?

I'll take a closer look at mine tonight and see if there is anything holding it that is visible.
