OK, I risk being ridiculed for this, but here goes.

I know little about the reception issue in regards to the signal strength dropping when people hold the phone "shorting" two anntenae together. I've just read a little and saw the one video where a guy put a key across a seam to show the issue in exxagerated form. I also read that obviously the issue goes away with the "bumpers" or just a case.

OK then, if you prefer to keep your iPhone 4 naked, why not just put a couple of coats of car wax on the antennae and buff to a shine?

Fire away.

Mike

Because that would indicate a defect aka flaw in the phone's design specifically related to the metal antenna band, end of story.

If Apple's own marketing materials (images, videos, brochures, even Steve Jobs' WWDC itself) showed them holding the phone in some funky screwy abnormal method, or if the phone came with a bumper installed on it from the factory, then you might have some ground to stand upon, but as it is, you don't.

Apple's own marketing materials show it being used in the hand, "naked," hence that's how it's done. If it's not functional as a hand-held cellular phone, that alone is the biggest defect of all.
