Did you not get Apple Care? A bad motherboard (and just about everything else except drop kicking it across the room) would be covered by Apple Care.

I got a new hard drive a month before the end of my Apple Care (meaning it was a 4 years minus one month old machine). Which we replaced with a bigger one once the Apple Care was up and we didn't have to worry about warranty issues. (it's now an external/portable)

Lessons for others:
Backup backup backup.
Apple Care is totally worth the money.

Sorry dude i think that he will charge you for data recovery. No company that i no off covers software faults / data recovery under warranty.

Did you ever run Diskwarrior on the drive? I saw someone mentioned it, but I didn't read that you tried it..

It sounds to me like the drive could be corrupt and Diskwarrior might just fix it.

Did you ever try this???? Seriously this should have been the #1 thing you did.
