Hi everyone!
I just bought the most adorable iMac G3 tray loader! It was built in September 1998 according to the sticker near the ports, so it's approaching its 20th birthday! Mac OS 9.2.
Aesthetically in great condition. Usually works fine but occasionally the screen 'crackles' and it distorts a little bit for a half second. Also last night the machine mysteriously didn't boot up again after I shut it down and unplugged it - no start up sound, nothing. Although I could hear the normal, very faint 'hissing' sound an iMac makes when it's getting power through the back if I put my ear to the vent. However it booted up this morning, I shut it off, unplugged it, replugged it and started it back up a few times to be sure it was running normally gain.
Question - what can or should I do for this machine? I want to keep it running and in good condition - should I open her up and clean out the dust? Anything to look out for that I can replace now to prevent future damage? Also needs RAM - she's only got 64megs. Any tips? I'm not too tech savvy with hardware but I'd like to be .
Thanks very much,
Matt
