Interesting stuff in this thread, I have a iMac G4 1.25ghz with 2 gig of ram which not long ago was upgraded. i replaced the optical drive with a nice dual layer DVD RW and the HD for a 250g 7200RPM 16MB WD which i use on OS tiger. I did try leopard but it wasn't as snappy as tiger. infact iam liking tiger on this G4 iMac but did contemplate an SSD drive at the time.

anyway will keep an eye on this thread as it will be interesting to see how this performs with an SSD, I have a feeling that an IDE SSD might have been better, even if you had to disconnect the cable and power cable on removal from optical drive bay as no interface connections between SATA and IDE ATA would seem the best route to take and as always the conversion interfaces always offer some degree of slowdown which with an SSD is kinds negating the whole idea of SSD speed.

anyway keep us posted!:) interesting

Well, just did a little research and alot of other sites other than newegg give good reviews of this adapter. And yes, it runs the Marvell 88SA8052 chipset. Though what the casing looks like on newegg may not be what you see on the final product. Some other websites were saying that.

Ass the bickering aside, cool thread. I was contemplating doing the same wiht my G4 iMac but the cost kinda sucks. I would love the OWC 40GB Legacy version but $130 is more than I paid for the mac itself.

Got the new adapter installed and there is noticeable improvement but still not experiencing true (but limited) SSD speed like the other guy did.

You numbers are quite near his results. Just read it carefully and compare one more time. In some parts of test he's got better score, in others you did. Do not forget that he used other SSD model than you.
You may want to check how it will perform on second IDE channel (this one where HDD is connected by default) as you did before.

I currently have Leopard on it and the OS feels a bit laggy, thought the G4 1.25 with 2GB would handle it better than it does now.

leopard does feel laggy on the iMac G4 1.25ghz, I have also had it installed a few times and it always feels laggy. but i can't help but feel maybe iam spoilt with a hex core 3.33 and lion which isn't really fair to compare to my iMac although i would never part with it as i use it daily.

like you i have 2 gig of DDR ram, except a 250G 16m cache WD HD and although leopard would be nice its tiger that shines on my iMac. tiger just feels so much more zippy and for what i use it for tiger is also fine. omni web browser is cool and much better than safari, with the new flash hack even you tube plays well now so iam gone stick with tiger which is so much more zippy on the iMac G4.

I also have another iMac G4 with 17" screen which i keep for any parts, which i have never needed yet, i would really like to fit a mac mini inside as i just love the G4 iMac shape. and yeap I've read all the threads on it being done, just need to get me some time in which to do it.

good luck with the g4 iMac, i think they are still the best looking iMac ever made:D
