my imac will not recognize my usb external harddrive anymore

what can i do about this? i have all my movies and music on there. please help, any suggestions are appreciated.

Try the drive with another mac or Take the drive out of the external casing and test it in another one.

Marcel - more detail please. It was working previously (we assume), so what might have changed? Is the ext USB drive externally powered? As suggested already, try the USB drive with another computer.

thanks for the reply guys. the external drive is externally powered but wont recognise on another computer (hich happens to be a pc). would switching cases help?

Absolutely, try and put it in another case. Most of the time it's the external casings that fail not the drives.
