I swear if negative things are ever said about apple you guys just attack like a pack of wolves lol

maybe this is why they call us apple fans a cult

Sucks to hear about your iPad. I think if i were in the OP's shoes i would have reacted just as he did. Waiting in line and spending all that money for a faulty product would have totally bummed me out too.

With that said...I dont see what OP wanted Apple to do? I'm sure you were not the only person with issues they are dealing with. They cant just stop everything to get you your iPad when there are tons of people waiting for shipment of orders the placed hours ago and have to wait 2-3 weeks shipping simply due to demand and not enough stock.

Go back to walmart and see what you can do, if not then you will still live. (not trying to be mean though, i still think it sucks)

Edit: I also think its f'ed up for them to hang up on you though. How rude!

This is one of the reasons I don't camp out for hours on end for the newest product....

My original iPhone I bought was on Day 2 of the launch... I went to the Tysons Mall for other shopping and saw no lines on a Saturday early evening and decided to stop by for a look at it. After about 15 to 30 minutes an Apple guy came by and asked me if I had any questions... I just asked him if they had the 4 or 8GB available.. they still had both...

Did the same with my iPhone 4... waited a bit... called the store for "next" delivery and stood in line not sure of what I would get. Told the guy that IU would take either the 16 or 32GB model....

With the iPad it was different... I went early on for the wifi... but wanted the 3G - in the end I timed my purchase from the local Apple Store and paid the 10% to get the 3G model...

As to Apple being rude in hanging up on the OP... we may never know the truth on that... not like being able to hear the 911 tapes on the news... That is why I suggested that if the OP was as good as he was in the YT video.. he should make a complaint....

But in my years in customer service; both in training and receiving the calls... there is a point that one ends the call... not hearing the actual call - we can only guess at how it went - giving the OP the benefit of the doubt. That is why I suggested that they make a complaint to Apple in order for the CS call to be reviewed....

Case in point was VERY poor service that I got from ATT supplier at a mall near by. The district manager made mention of reviewing the video from the store and my visit... in the end I was happy that it was there to bolster my concerns that day last month...

I think the stuck pixel can't be fixed but did the home button ever work and then just stopped working? It may be the application getting locked up and your ipad has basically crashed.

Have you tried a full restart holding the power and home button together? I bet a reset will hopefully get you back to at least a usuable state. Maybe a full OS reinstall through itunes is another way to go if you can get that far.

If you can get that home button working, you can then just wait a few weeks to exchange for the pixel.

Yes you got a lemon. Why not return it to Walmart? You'd get your money back pretty much instantly instead of waiting for the RMA process with Apple...

^This is a disaster. You are mildly inconvenienced.

QFT. Well put and a good reminder.

Give the guy a break. Yes, issues do happen and a defect slips through from time to time, but no company should ever ship a complete disaster device with multiple failures like that.

Its called "mass manufacturing" stuff happens, its completely normal. People want cheap prices, this is the consequence. Unfortunately the public doesn't seem to understand that and gets bent out of shape over a defective product instead of simply exchanging it.

Return it to Wal-Mart and exchange it. Not sure what you expected Apple to do in this situation. Sucks your calls got dropped, but I suspect the call centers are busy because of the launch. If Wal-Mart doesn't have any stock, try going to an Apple store if there is one close. Earliest you'd get a replacement by shipping is next week or later, and that could very well be the case with your local Wal-Mart.

take it to apple tomorrow. simple. If they don't have any more in stock to exchange demand a phone call for when one arrives so that you can do a quick exchange. Not the end of the world.

No logical company is going to ship you a free product on the basis of your "word" that you'll return it.

Sounds to me like they attempted to resolve your situation, and while they could have fought to keep you as a customer when you mentioned Motorola, perhaps they don't have(or need to take) time to argue the point.

If Steve Jobs was a customer service rep and you told him the same thing......I think you would have gotten the same treatment. As a personal shareholder...I applaud them.

Don't you think you're being a bit overly dramatic? You create a Macrumors and Youtube account and video just to showcase your problem, you mention the word disaster, multiple dead pixels (not the case), and poor customer service just because you can't get your way when just earlier you said excellent service.

I'm a long time Apple user and i know for a fact Apple has top notch customer service. However i am not a fanboy who will defend Apple against every complain. With that said i think you're the one who's the disaster or just looking for some attention and perhaps you should switch to Motorola?

OP...I was with you until you mentioned going to Motorola. Sounds like the Apple CR tried to give you the options available but since you didn't like any of them you went for the jugular...and threatened to go somewhere else. Well...that's definitely your choice..but don't get upset with the CR. It wasn't even one of his options for you but nope...you had to go there.

This is one of the best replies I have ever read. Good form.

OP, you have a defective unit. This happens when factories makes millions of things.

Return it and get a new one or get your money back.

This is why I opted to do a mini Personal Setup at the store. Inspected the screen, made sure it goes online, etc. before I took it home. That way if I needed a replacement, it would have been available straight away.

A lot of people in line were bashing the personal setups saying they are just going to get theirs and take it right home, and well this is the kind of stuff you risk by doing that! An extra 5 minutes in the store but it saved potentially weeks or months of heartbreak and stress.

Life check

Dude, life sucks sometimes and no we can't always have it our way. The fact that you even got one after waiting only 2 hours in line shows you are luckier then most. The majority of us will have to wait 1-2 months after the launch to get one. Pfft! I can live with a dead pixel for a few weeks or without an iPad for a few days to get a quick exchange by mail.

I once ordered a Quarter Pounder at McDonalds drive through and when I got home I discovered they gave me a Big Mac instead and felt mad at myself for not checking before driving away. Was it a disaster? No, wasn't what I wanted but shet happens. What did I do? I ate the dam thing because it is food and I was hungry and there are people in this world starving to death who would love to of had that Big Mac so I consider myself blessed. Did I post to some forum about my McDonalds disaster? No, that would be very immature. I've grown up and learned to except life on life's terms. I could of drove back and exchanged it for a Quarter Pounder but what would be the point? Food is food and it did the job for me because I was able to except it for what it was, a simple flaw in the imperfect world that I live in.

If you want to see a real disaster read up on the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The ideal of being buried under ruble or tons of mud will make your dead pixel disaster seem just a tad smaller. Now shut your whiney pie hole and enjoy your imperfect iPad till the stock returns.

Disaster???

What? Are you like 5 years old?

Looks like Apple was very nice and offered you several options but you rejected them all because it's not what YOU want and then you threaten to get a Motorola. Please, do us all the favor. You certainly don't have my sympathy.

Here is a great solution: take the defective unit back to the store and get your money back. Donate that money to a disaster relief fund to help with the real disaster in Japan. Then wait patiently for two months. Walk into an Apple store and get a perfect unit of your choice off the shelf for that instant feeling of gratification that is so short lived. The pay off for your patience in the long term is; instead of being full of anger you will feel very good about yourself for a change having helped those less fortunate while you wait for the iPad restock and you will walk away with a perfect iPad 2! This plan is full of Win! :D

What have we learned here today, check your product before you leave the store, sheets happen and nothing is perfect, we can't always get what we want when we want it, patience pays off, there are other things we can do to make the situation better by helping others around us instead of wallowing in self pity.

IIRC, amazon does. I know it's not an iPad 2 but I got a defective BD and they sent me a new copy free and if I they don't receive the defective at a certain date they will charge my MasterCard.

Sorry to hear about your issues

I think we are all forgetting that not all of the blame would be placed on Apple. You are purchasing from a reseller. Resellers have their own rules, and governing policies. Apple provides a warranty, yes. But are you positive that these issues were caused by Apple? WalMart could potentially be at fault here. Let's face facts that the folks at WalMart don't really care about their jobs, in most cases, and truly might have damaged the product. It could have also been damaged in shipping. When you buy other products from WalMart, do you go directly to the manufacturer to have them replaced? Probably not. I am positive the folks at Apple truly felt badly, but I watched the YouTube video as well. There are lots of unanswered questions. The first, why would you not go to WalMart for a refund and/or to be put on a list for replacement. You purchase from a reseller, the reseller has a responsibility to replace/refund for issues with an product right out of the box.
I truly wish you the best of luck in getting a replacement, but disastrous this was not. I think we all might need accept the human limitations, and geographical limitations. These are not produced in the US, so when new products are built to order, you will have to wait for them to be built, be sent-over thousands of miles, and delivered.
