Last year when the iPad Pro 3rd Gen 12.9" and 11" released. I quickly upgraded my 1st Gen 12.9" iPad Pro 128gb to 12.9" iPad Pro.

All was great until I started to travel and soon realized that carrying my iPad Pro around was not as easy as I thought. I was under the impression that the new 12.9" is smaller in form factor compared to my first gent 12.9". I had planned to use the 12.9" 3rd gen as a notebook tablet.

Soon I decided to change my 12.9" iPad Pro 3rd Gen to the 11" model. Now I am totally satisfied.

O was concerned that the 11" model will be small but it turned out just fine. I can type fine with the Smart folio keyboard and the weight of the 11" iPad Pro and smart folio is also lighter at 1.1kg.

    It was about 1.4kg before.

I am now using the iPad Pro 11" without any case. Want to maintain the light weight.
I have applied 3M clear skin on the iPad Pad. It is fully protected from scratches. I am using a paper like screen protector which is amazing doe writing and drawing.

I use the folio case for typing documents. Using a Slickwraps sling mode the folio.

I have a nice carrying case for the iPad Pro with folio and my apple pencil 2 (which also has a nice case).

Totally happy with my iPad Pro 11" 1tb LTE.
Waiting for the iOS 13 update to take this small beast to another level.

    Here are some pictures.

I went through a similar decision, but in the other direction. 11” screen was just not large enough. I’m using a new Logitech Slim Folio with my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9. Opted for that keyboard because it’s backlit, which is essential when flying at night. The Logitech case definitely adds some bulk, however, it’s still on the light side compared to my MBP and offers great protection. I used to travel with the latter. No more. iPad is now more than sufficient for my travel needs. And yes, IOS 13 will be the icing on the virtual cake.

I bought this sleeve case from Amazon. Fits the 12.9/slim folio perfectly.

I found the 12.9" heavy for carrying with the smart folio and pouch.

I didn't carry my 12.9" 1st gen around because it was big. I thought since the new 12.9" is small, I would carry it around but regretted it.

11" iPad Pro is perfect and the weight is also not so heavy 1.1kg (iPad Pro 11" and Smart folio) and 1.2kg when put into the carrying pouch for traveling.

For iPad Pro 12.9" Smart Folio and pouch it was nearly 1.6kg.

Oh…I understood that. Just wanted to offer a counter-point for anyone considering an 11 or 12.9. It was a hard choice for me…weight vs function. In the end function won out. Regardless, both devices are quite impressive.

Yes the iPad Pro is an excellent tablet.

Sad it is limited at the moment but with iOS 13, it will be perfect.

I have my doubts that iOS 13 will deliver perfection.

I know nothing will be perfect but I need mouse support and able to read external SD card or Hard disk. Once that support is available, it will be perfect for my needs.

I read external SD cards all the time with it, and hard disks are already possible - it's up to the disk manufacturers to make them work, according to Apple. I'm a trackpad guy so not interested in mouse support as quite happy using the touchscreen for the most part.

Seems IOS 13 will further refine iPad function and OS interaction, plus Dark Mode.

I had a gen. 1 12.9” iPad Pro as well, but decided on the 11” model as its replacement for similar reasons as OP.

While the 12.9” is pretty awesome, the size and weight would sometimes limit where & how often I would bring it with me.

The 11” is noticeably lighter and (obviously) more compact, making it much more convenient and comfortable for me to bring with me more frequently.

I do miss the higher screen pixel count, however, of the 12.9” version, which brought with it some exclusive features (full-size side by side apps versus one full size and one mini-size, three pane display in the email app, etc).

Can you elaborate on this a little please? I have not been following news on the new iPad Pro; I have a 10.5 and am perfectly happy but just ordered the 11” and this is literally the 1st thread I clicked on about the new Pro and have seen a couple of similar comments. Thx

Currently we are unable to connect a uSB mouse to the iPad and also we cant connect external Memory cards or hard drives.

However, with iOS 13, they will be possible.

The iPad Pro can then be used like a notebook computer.

Cant wait. Once its announced, we can register to try the beta right?

Can I register now to be a beta tester?

This is nothing but a rumour dressed as fact.
And yes we can connect memory cards, but only use them to import pictures.

Since storage tiers are a big source of profit strongly doubt we get full read and write functionality for external media.

Unless it was an apple product, and restricted to that.

In some ways I wouldn’t be against that.
