I am Korean, and after asking Apple Korea about this but I heard that it is a user environment problem.

User environment problem…doesn’t look like they want to replace your device if you don’t have AppleCare. How would that explosion happen?
 
So it’s basically cosmetic damage from material friction where the pencil is supposed to charge.
No explosion as far as I can tell.
