I wouldn’t have bought it had my Surface Pro 7 didn’t stop accepting touch and was diagnosed a motherboard problem back in January of this year. Like we would all be, I was disgruntled at first because I just shelled out $1000 for it just over a year ago. The warranty had just expired. But turned out to be A total blessing in disguise.

Cost to fix: Over $700CAD including the parts and labour. More than the device was worth. I instead sold it at a loss and got a 11” iPad Pro and never looked back. And this is coming from a 7 year user of the Surface Pros. After using the IPad Pro everyday for the past 9 months, I say to myself I can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner.

I mainly use it as a note taking device and it destroys the Surface Pro for writing experience, app selection and touch UI. Not even comparable. This has been the best tech buy in the last year. I use it a lot more than I expected. Take it with me everywhere, to work everyday to take notes, so much lighter than any laptop. Oh and the battery life isn’t even comparable between the two. With the surface pro, I always had to bring along my battery bank which weighed 2.5lbs, so that 2lb Surface now became a 5lb laptop, which complete defeats the purpose. iPad Pro 1lb and no battery pack needed. Goes into a sleeve and is super portable and versatile. No keyboard used with it, I finger type everything on it.

Curious on what you usually use it for? I used to use the Surface and moved to the iPad, but can't completely go iPad only due to some programs and some required data analysis.

But agree that the biggest thing is that I don't have to bring a laptop charger anymore. I charge the iPad overnight, and can just bring it without fear of it dying mid day. Using it is also so nice, with writing and reading. But the only drawback is now I have to carry 2 devices, both my Dell laptop and iPad.

Also the reliability on Surfaces is horrible. Two family members and a childhood friend had horrible experiences. Mainly hardware issues including failure.
