Don't upgrade to anything higher than 2.2.1.
I'm still on 2.2.1 and it runs great. It's so perfectly smooth and quick, it's almost like having an iPhone 4 (without multitasking and copy and paste of course).
Anyway... I'm happy for now.
My iPhone 3G is starting to show it's age on the outside though... I've got a ton of cracks, scratches and general wear 'n' tear on the outside of it.
Still makes and receives phone calls perfectly though.
Just thought I'd let you know. If you think 3.1.3 is fast, you should downgrade to 2.2.1. It's night and day. Believe me.
pointless activity, just upgrade the phone. what a frigging headache instead of two hundred dollar purchase. I don't get it.
i know money is tight everywhere, but this business of criticizing Apple over 3G support / trying to keep a 3 year old smartphone relevant is just dumb.

You're really missing out. You are essentially using $100 of a $500 iPhone where a power-user on 4.0.2 like myself is using all $500 of the device. Go buy a Sumsung flip-phone.
The only reason I returned my iPhone 4 is because of the antenna issue. I realize that not everyone has the problem because it depends on where you live, but I do have the problem and I'd rather have a phone that works no matter what, than a flashy phone that makes me have to re-train myself to hold it differently than any other phone out there.
its not just dependent on where you live, its luck of the draw if you get one that doesn't have the issue. i live in poor signal area, but no antenna issue.
I'm convinced that OP is the one and only TheSpaz.
What with the 2.2.1 talk and the "still the best phone to text with" (TheSpaz would always say that), I'm almost certain this is TheSpaz.
Where's your evidence to back this up? Do you know anyone in your area that has the issue? What if it has something to do with the quality of the signal AT&T is putting out and not just how strong the signal is. You can have a really strong signal and it could suck, or you could have a weak signal and have no problems. I think it comes down to the quality of the signals and the frequencies the service provider is using.
I believe that you don't have the issue, but I haven't seen an iPhone 4 around HERE that DOESN'T have the antenna issue. That's all I'm saying.
To me, I think it's based on the quality of the service and it's exaggerated with the design of the iPhone 4.
I have no evidence either, but if you can provide some evidence that some phones in the same place have no issue, I'll change my mind.
well my neighbour got his iphone 4 at launch, it had the issue in my area, he got his swapped for a week 31, no issue anymore.
Then why is it such a secret? People should know that it's a defect then and not a design issue.
I think this is something major if it's true. Why don't more people know about this?
it's no secret, people on here have been saying they have no problems with their iPhones for a while, they just get shot down by negative people claiming its all lies, as seems to be the nature of this forum. the naysayers shout the loudest....
