iPhone 4 is really fast with iOS below 4.3. I think it's because the more features added into the new OS, the more laggy the iPhone becomes. just like the 3GS, feels fast at first, but with the newer version of iOS it feels slow. that's why we need an iPhone 5. :D

My 3GS is fine with 4.3.

No i don't want to sync everything back though

Plain and simple I just want a brand new iphone. Fresh as if I had just brought it home from the store. NOTHING on it. No texts no apps nothing...

BUT I still want to back up all my texts to my computer

Are those texts really that important? There is no way you can restore your iPhone and get your texts back. A restore is a full one, and it treats your iPhone as a new phone you just bought. So i recommend you restore your iPhone.

Regarding the texts, if they are so important then take pics of them and save them on your computer (home button + sleep/wake button).

Yes very very very important. I DON'T want to restore them to the phone I juuuust want to save them and view them on my pc

Okay update, I have completely reset the iPhone. Fresh. Brand new. New iPhone. But it's still not peppy like it used to be. What am I missing?? Should I call tech support..

this was a refurb/replacement

iPhone 4 definitely slower than it should be.

Okay, so I've done a complete new install of iOS on my iPhone 4..

it is definitely still slower than it should be. Compared it to my mom's iPhone 4. DEFINITELY slower.

The main noticeable difference when comparing is when I go into an app they're slower to load and when I hit the home button, my iPhone 4 takes an extra second to exit the app.

Now a couple months ago I had my iPhone replaced by apple because of a faulty home button.

Anyway what do you think is the cause?

Step 1. Make sure you empty your Multi-task tray from time-to-time.

Yeah. Like I said fresh install.

Vs iPhone 4 that never empties open apps.

Anyway I just went through the website and it didn't recognize that I had apple care grr.. I thought they'd transfer it to the replacement they sent me.

Are you sure app data wasn't backed up and restored on the new phone? Maybe that's why apps start up slower.

Off Topic: Can you post the wallpaper of the tree branch or pm it to me or something please? Thanks.

Well I had a "slow" home button before...eventually found out it was the accessibility settings :/

got off the phone with tech support
now i gotta go to a "genius" bar.. christ

I don't want to insult your intelligence, but I have to ask: did you do a brand new iOS load without restoring from a backup?

Also, is your iPhone refurbished or new?

Sorry I don't have a fix, but I can back you up on this. My iPhone 4 has been much much slower in recent months. I have only filled up half of the available storage, I restart the phone at least once a week, close apps (completely) very often, and still have a fairly slow phone. Sorry I can't help, but you're not the only one with an oddly slow phone.

amazingdm: Sorry you're having issues but you have three other threads for the same issue this year and blueroom found one for last year. It isn't clear to me if you're following the advice given and there is a lot of confusion around syncing/not syncing, texts, current iOS/not current IOS.

Because a Genius tells you there's nothing wrong doesn't mean it's not slow. Assuming your phone(s) have the same performance as the gazillion other iPhones out of the box, you are going to figure out what you do to it to make it slow. It might be one or more of your 150 apps, or that you don't sync, or your text vault, or jb (if you did), or a mountain of other things. It's just like PC support when you have two PCs that were built with the same image and one crashes all the time, something happened to it that didn't happen to the stable one. It doesn't mean you meant to but if your phone is slow then there is something on it that it doesn't like.

You're going to have to be surgically precise if you want to resolve the slowness. Sync to iTunes and make sure everything is saved and then put it on the latest iOS and restore it as a new phone so it's no different that when you took it out of the box. Benchmark it. Slowly start putting your settings and apps back on it and benchmark frequently. At some point you will find out what's slowing it down or you'll get back to your original configuration with no slowness.

But please, stick with it and fix it. There are too many incomplete threads already for this issue and you've got a lot of folks trying to help.

It doesn't but I did mention it is a new load. I even deleted all old backups before doing it.

The iphone is a replacement sent by apple. The geek err genius at the genius bar said it was a service replacement and that they don't do refurbs. Ya right.

I just have to accept these constant firmware updates have bogged the base system down.

Is this the same phone you refuse to update to the latest iOS? It's probably all those old txt messages chewing up your RAM.

Seems it's been a year for pretty much the same problem.
Slow iPhone 4 July 2010

Okay when the hell did I say I refuse to update to the latest ios?

Someone asked me what ios I was on and I told them and then they asked is there any reason I hadn't updated and I said no. I just never updated.. But then I did update. Brand new iOS install like I've been saying. Latest firmware. No crap on it. Everythings new. It seems like the safari browser is the main area where I see lag and freezeups. But other places too.

Oh well. One more year til a new iPhone.
