Why do people want a 4 or 5 MP camera?
The pixel density on a sensor this ridiculously small results in more image noise or over aggressive in-camera noise reduction algorithms. I'd rather have a cleaner 3MP image.
Are you printing iPhone photos larger than 5x7? Are you posting online pictures 2048 x 1536.
The bigger number isn't necessarily better. Even if the competition is doing it.
Seriously, those of you demanding more MP, exactly what are you doing that necessitates this?
Mostly, it just seems like a reasonable upgrade, no that I am dying for it. That sort of upgrade is more likely to happen than a high quality, low-noise 3MP CCD. I only have a 3G, and anything would be an improvement. I would even take the 3MP of the current 3GS, but I figure a 5MP is a reasonable upgrade by the time the next iphone comes out. More pixels = bigger pictures and better print quality.
I take photos with a 6.5MP DSLR, and they look pretty good on 8x10. I would like to print 11x17 however, but 6.5MP just doesn't cut it for that large of print. I plan on getting a new DSLR when the ~20MP are in my price range.
