Everyone has different storage needs so please withhold your judgment on what you define as "ridiculous." That being said, the iPad Air is still currently Apple's flagship tablet.

The iPad Air is still currently Apple's flagship tablet, but it doesn't cost $700, it costs $500. It's $500 that has "issues" you described, not $700. The additional price you paid has absolutely nothing to do with these issues. You can buy a $1M+ Mac Pro painted in red by Sir Jony, but it will have exact same issues as a base model.

So you paid only $500 to have these issues, not $700, ok? ;)

That said, the perceived slowness might be simply related to animations. Perhaps, Apple deliberately made animations on bigger screens slower so you can be delighted with them more. :D

You're off your rocker. He paid $700. If you want to be so bold as to politely point out that the tech found in the $700 device is actually $500, go ahead, but the consumer paid $700 so to that person, the issue is a $700 problem. If you don't like that language, then contact Apple and tell them to stop selling that model. It's a bit ridiculous to correct someone and tell them the problem they are experiencing is a "$500 problem".

Ios 7.1 beta 3 is buttery smooth on the iPad Air the way is supposed to be. Many many enhancements to the overall smoothness have been completely addressed along with most of the stupid respringing. Here's a link to a video I made. I've been using it all week on my air and it's really really close to being ready for prime time. That's saying a lot considering this beta is waaaay more stable than the current public release. At least on my ipad.

Great video, ok a little shaky but still shows that a lot of work has been done in 7.1 beta 3. I'm really hoping that this comes out within the January timeframe that's been suggested and not the March that some others believe it could.

This whole price thing is ridiculous, although Ben the truth is the extra cash you pay for the $700 model compared to the $500 is not in performance but JUST extra features, such as 3G / 4G chips for mobile internet, more storage space - thats it. A $500 iPad and a $700 iPad perform the EXACT same way in benchmarks and everyday use as the chips are clocked at the same speed and the iOS is virtually identical.
