My 1 week old iPhone 7 Plus 256gb (Jet Black) which I had protected the whole phone body with 3M film protection nearly fell from my desk but thanks to the charging cable was able to catch hold of the phone. However, it hit the side of the table in the process. It was a hard bang though.

Upon checking the phone I noticed there is a scratch on the side of the phone but there is 3M film covering the whole body. Not sure if it has caused any major damage to the phone body. There is one more scratch at the back of the phone around the corner, but doesn't seem to be as deep as the one on the side. Tomorrow I will pass by the shop who did the 3M film installation and request them to remove the side film and reinstall a new one. Will come to know if the scratch on the side did any damage to the phone or did the 3M film protect it?

Scratch on the side of the phone.

Scratch at the back of the phone on the top right.

It was a shocking 3 secs and all this happened at night when I woke up from sleep getting out of bed.

Anyway, I hope there are no scratches on the camera lens. I can't seem to find any.

Been waiting for a lens protector from iMos for a while now and it is coming in stock next week.

Boy even when I have the 3M film protection on the phone and on top of that Apple Care+, I am so pissed off.

Likely some minor damage at most. Could have been worse. At least you took extra precaution with the 3M.

I hope there are no damages. You don't know how careful I have been since I got the phone and for this to happen when getting of the bed due to the charging cable. Luckily I grabbed the charging cable to stop the phone from hitting the ground. It had to hit the side of the wooden desk though, hence the scratch on the side and a small one at the back of the phone.

Will have to be positive and wait till I get to the shop later today to check and replace the 3M film. Hoping for no damage.

I am also hoping for no scratches to the camera lens. I have been waiting patiently for the camera protector from iMos.

You started a whole thread because you dropped your phone? What is America becoming? That's pretty lame!

You came in to read my lame thread, didn't you?

All of the damage maybe just to the film-

but best to be ready to add something new if you remove it to look

I tend to like a backing that will not slide on a waxed table top.

I also hope so that the damage is on the film itself. I will find out when I replace the film.

Normally I put my phone in my Joli Originals leather pouch when charging, but I didn't do that because first two days when I inserting the phone in my Joli pouch, the 3M film had some stickiness on the edges and it was attracting some of the felt from inside the leather pouch. It was annoying since the felt is red in color. It actually is better now but sadly I had not put my phone in the pouch last night. Damn.

Thank god you told us it was 256 and not 128!
Lol. Sorry, it is being a habit when I post about my phone. It will soon die down.

its just a phone, get over it.
Normally I do after a month or two but not in the first week. Lol.

You are right. I may be over reacting. Probably after today I may realize it already. May be it had to happen to get me to enjoy the phone more than worrying about scratches.

Just wondering.. Is the 3M film slippery or does it have some grip?

But yeah that damage looks like just the film.

A few scratches will liberate you. I got a couple from keys placed in the same pocket; annoyed with myself but immediately shrugged - it's just a bloody 'phone. I view it as a tool which is what it is. I put it down, pick it up, hand it to people, walk away and leave it with them. If you handle it like you would a young baby and overreact over a scratch you are going to appear weird.

Actually the film is not slippery at all. it actually adds a nice grip when I hold the phone.

The phone was placed on a microfiber cloth while it was charging at night.

On a positive but funny note, it is a nice way to wake me up in the morning. i am wide awake now. it is now 7.30am. Getting ready to go to the office.

Thank God it is Friday.

Trust me, if it was a month or two later, i wouldn't have been so ticked off. I have ordered a lot of stuff to use with my phone and they have not even arrived yet. It has only been one week. The excitement for having this new phone is still very much there.

I don't think your over reacting. It's a $1000.00 investment and I take care of my iPhones in the same respect. You spend that kind of money, you want it to look nice and your liking. Nothing wrong with that. I usually can sell all my iPhones in mint condition being how well I take care of them.

Some treat their iPhones like trash and abuse them. That's fine. Others are more respectful to their devices and take of them. Everyone is different.

Have to stay focused on my presentation today. If it goes well, all this will be forgotten.

Thanks for your understanding and support. I am exactly like you.

I take very good care of my phones as I upgrade very frequently. When I sell my old devices I get a good resale value because the place where I sell my phones know me well and blindly trust my devices and give me better offers.

My phone is not just US $1000 investment. I normally take it a lot higher with all the fancy accessories I use for my phones. Like the glass screen protector, 3M film for the body, all my 5 leather sleeve pouches (3 are ordered from Holland), etc, etc. When I use my devices, I like to use them and enjoy them at the same time.

Like I said earlier if I had experienced the near fall or the hit to the side table a couple of months later, I would not have felt that bad but not in the first week. Oh well, may be it is part of life and have to move on. I feel a lot better about it already. May be posting and sharing with you guys on the forums, may have also helped.

Lol. Nothing. I was just sharing my experience. Not important? Then no comment was needed.
Where do you go to get a 3M film applied to the phone? And what about the screen - do you have tempered glass to cover that so that you at least have some drop protection when you're holding the phone (ie, walking, carrying...)?

I am in Hong Kong. There is a place where I go to install 3M film protection already the phone body. I have been doing this with every phone I have owned for many years now.
Yes, my phones always have glass screen protector. I usually carry my phone in a leather sleeve pouch. I have many sleeve pouches (of course not all are leather). I had 3 leather sleeves since iPhone 6 Plus and only this year I ordered 2 more since 2 of my sleeves (which I bought 2 years ago) are getting to be really old.

Thanks for the reply. I asked because earlier this year I dropped my 6S+ (which was housed in the Apple leather case) on a marble floor (hotel lobby). The phone landed face down...thanks to the smooth floor and the lip of the case, there was no damage. I rarely drop things - but sometimes things just happen. That's why I would be afraid to use a phone without at least a minimally protective case to lessen impact on hard surfaces when dropped. So I wonder if tempered glass screen cover + 3M film would have been enough to keep the phone intact (with just a screen cover replacement needed) in the same scenario.
