OK well doode even tho you dont think it could happen it DID happen and im trying to tell you guys this. If you dont want to beleive me then **** it i really dont care but if apple dosnt do anything about this it could happen to u and if i slept in longer maybe serious damage would have been done. U woulda had to beleive it if my house had burnt down lol. The reason i posted on this site was because i saw the other thing about iphone 3g melting on digg jeez.

Alright, bro, I'll take your word for it that it happened. I'm glad you got it replaced. I'd keep an eye on these forums and see if any other people experience similar.

While i won't say for certain that your story is entirely true, i also have a hard time believing that someone would make something like this up deliberately for attention...i tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, cause you know, we're all human, and **** happens.

That said, you always have to wear a fire-retardant suit whenever you post in a place filled with Apple fanboys...cause they show no mercy. Nevermind those who have nothing better to do but proclaim you as an outright liar, let them think and say what they want, and if this happens to them with worse repercussions, well...karma, eh? I'll take your word on it for now...do keep us posted with whatever happens and whatnot, as i am assuming you contacted apple about this issue...

I would also put a surge protector on that wall socket just in case some power surge was part of the problem.

What in the f**k was it doing on the floor anyway? Maybe short circuited with the bottle cap that is laying on the floor??? :D

I have a feeling since it was on the floor you stepping on it broke the end and caused it to short circuit.

+1

This is exactly what I was thinking, especially since cleanliness and organization seem to be missing from the OP's setting (empty beer box and bottle cap on the floor).

Yep, that's why I was being so sarcastic with him earlier.

Doode bro he dosnt care wut u think Y dont U beleive him?

I don't believe him because the only way for a disconnected connector like that to get hot and melt/burn is if there is a short in it. Such a short would either be there from day one or it would come from getting broken. If he's been successfully charging his phone prior to this, the connector must have gotten broken since purchasing it.

I'm on your side, as long as you noticed that my post was pure sarcasm. I would be embarrassed to type like that.

This is an ENGLISH forum.

I'm getting annoyed by people that sign up here, and on the same day make a post like this, and all their posts are about this.

How come this never happens to people that post here often?

sigh i think i went to the wrong place with this i had no idea that everyone here were english teachers and electricians.

This happened to be too!

I don't understand why its so hard for some of you to believe this guy. Perhaps if another person filed a similar claim?

I too charge my phone using the supplied usb power adapter and most of the time leave my cable on the floor. It typically is on my desk, but considering how most power outlets are located near the floor one might be able to see how gravity might cause the cable to end up on the floor. I don't believe I read anywhere upon purchase of rules for charging to which it states if charging cable meets with floor, fires my occur. Yes, it is a good rule of thumb to unplug all power cable that are not in use, but really - tell me you do this?

No I do not have cheap carpet nor long carpet. No I did not spill/pour water on the floor.

I only have one picture at the moment (nice quality iphone picture). I'll take some with my Nikon tonight and repost.

MY STORY

I found my phone cable melted to my carpet floor a few days ago. It was plugged into the new usb power adapter (previous one was recalled), which was plugged into a surge protector. I have two iPhones, the other cable was untouched. Both in the same location.

Called apple, found them to be completely apologetic and they have sent a replacement cable. I posted a thread on the Apple website forums and it was deleted within minutes. After further speaking with friends and family, I will be filling a claim to at least have my carpet replaced. Its the least they can do.

As I said above, it still goes.

The cable wasn't plugged into the phone, your post never says that. So that cable was exposed to the carpet plugged in. I don't know about you but first of all, I don't let cables lay on the floor at my house, and 2, it is pretty obvious something made it burn.

And this didn't burn you, so the same thing didn't happen. File a claim to get new carpet if it's that bad. I can't honestly wait to see these pictures, but for the love of god don't take this as a chance to sue your heart out of Apple.

My phone was not plug into the charger. My phone was with me, the usb charger cable was left plugged into the usb power adapter which was plugged into a surge protector. My iMac and other iPhone charging cable were plugged into the same power stripe, but unharmed.

I don't know about you but first of all, I don't let cables lay on the floor at my house, and 2, it is pretty obvious something made it burn.

No I don't make a mess of leaving cables around my house either. But say you have your cable on your desk, by chance this happens and your desk was damage or whatever, maybe even worst case you loose your home - You would still argue the same fact? Yes, I'll be honest, typically my charger is subject to exposure to my floor (once unplugging it from my phone which does sit on my desk I left it fall), however, my floor did not burn the charger, the charger burnt my floor. Same goes with a desk or what other matter holds your charger.

To all those that will argue the fact that it should have been unplugged, you are correct. However, I unplug my iron when I do not use it because it still omits heat do to it still has power. I do not unplug my dyer or microwave, because when not in use they do not send power (Before the post of semantics you get my point). If I disconnect my phone from the cable, it should not receive power there for it should not be a threat. But something happened, causing the cable to send power and with have nothing to recieve the power and or 'stop it', it over heated and melted. Now whether the cable was setting on a my floor or a desk, etc - the product faulted. How, I don't know how or why, I'm not qualified to say, and those who comment to the fact, show me how you are.

And this didn't burn you, so the same thing didn't happen. File a claim to get new carpet if it's that bad. I can't honestly wait to see these pictures, but for the love of god don't take this as a chance to sue your heart out of Apple.

No it did not burn me. The affected carpet area is about the size of a quarter. Not that bad, no. Big deal right. But why should I have to pay for a hole in my carpet due to a product failure. I'm not the guy in the restaurant who complains of a hair in my food looking for a free meal. I am an honest guy, to which feels complied to shed light of a potential treating issue. I am not out to take Apple for a lawsuit and bask in a nice settlement check, I do however feel that its right that I be compensated for my carpet pending I show an estimate of replacement cost.

If your thinking I'm the guy looking to cash in on a product mistake, your fooling yourself. Just remember, had your cable faulted on your desk or other area and it caused damage, would you look the other way?

The cable laying on my desk isn't going to catch fire. We have 2 iPhones, 4 in all, and our cables just lay on the desk. Since June 29th, 2007, we've never had a problem. More than likely, a piece of hair was caught in your charger, or some fuzz, or whatever it could be.

If you file a lawsuit you don't have much for you. Cable shouldn't of been on the floor. Cable wasn't faulty. And this sounds stupid, but the cable we left unintended..

But Apple has a heart so if you pursue this you'll probably get new carpet.

Perhaps your right, say it was my carpet. Say it was a hair, fuzz, etc - Problem solved, mystery over. My fault. Are you kidding me? So a piece of fuzz can cause my cable to connect and omit charge the same way connecting it to the intended use of a phone? That my friend is ludicrous and poor product development then.

If how I see it really was the cause - the cable faulted - your desk to would burn on less its metal, etc, etc. But what about papers, etc. You mean to tell me your desk is keep completely clean and in no way if your cable faulted like mine you would be free of any damage? Then you are one of none. I would call BS on that.

And you have 4 phones, which lead me to believe you have kids? So all of you charge in one special place? Never go on vacation and leave the cable randomly hanging around?

Your missing the point all together.

What are you talking about the cable be left unattended? You or someone is in constant view of your charger?

So lets get this straight? Upon buying a iPhone I should never have my cable on the floor, leave it unattended, and in no way calm that the product is or can be faulty.

Amazing.

The cable stays on. It's a USB charger afterall. If the charger isn't charging a phone, you could still get power from it. It's on all the time.

I meant 4 cables. We just have 2 iPhones at the moment, but had the first 2 iPhones as well.

No I don't have many papers on my desk, and the other location we charge the phone as well. That wouldn't cause the fire. Nor would a charger laying on the desk cause a fire.

As i said, something got into the inside connector of the charger. The outside metal could be touching anything, papers, wood, even CARPET, but if something gets inside that 30 pin connector...
