its the 5.7" rule

iPhone 5S to iPad air = 5.7" difference
iPad Air to 15.4 MBP = 5.7" difference

it's almost like Apple designed it that way. 5.7 inches between all your devices.

I'd like to add that typing on my mini with the split keyboard feels great. It was a stretch on the air. Now I only use my iPhone for regular SMS and phone calls. But who even uses those anymore anyway? ;-)
If that's the case, why have an iPhone? Just get a Tracfone or some other ridiculously cheap prepaid plan and avoid the data charges?

Lol well I can't take my rMini EVERYWHERE and it's just the wifi version also so I need my iPhone for data.

I can't run iPad software on my iPhone. Not all apps are universal. OmniOutliner, for one, doesn't exist for the iPhone, only iPad and OS X.

Were I to use a tablet, I would want one with a screen small enough that I can comfortably hold it upright with one hand while I read books on it. So far, that hasn't been the iPad. I haven't tried the Air yet, so I can't say whether I will buy that or just go with the Mini

The only things I didn't care for with the original Mini were the non-Retina screen (fuzzy) and the small keyboard.

You're dealing with emotional and not rational responses, that's why. It'll never change so long as we remain as human as we are.

You defeatist!<grin>

Personally, I believe it can change, we just have to figure out *how best* to change it, because frankly it's unacceptable people coming on here (ignorantly) announcing their superiority at choosing one device over another, implying or outright declaring that I am stupid for choosing something else.

Your other reasons are fine, but I use the mobile version of MR.com on my iPhone 5 and it works great. No small text there.

Sorry you're right. I just prefer the full version.

Mobile version is missing the emoticons, polls, probably others. I enjoy the full experience.

People saying that big screen phone will leave no need for mini haven't experienced mini. I had note and mini and difference in the screen size was remarkable. It is good to have options just pick the one that suits u more.

You have to wonder the psychology R&D that goes into their products sometimes...

Mini's screen is diagonal almost 4 times bigger than iPhone's 5. When i do work i use my lovely Macbook Air. So i wanted a device to compliment my MBA and that is for sure the mini. Nothing beats the mini while in bed and in every position :p:)

It seems highly likely that the next iPhone will have at least a 5" display.

As this is creeping into iPad mini territory, I have decided to go with the iPad Air this time around (along with other reasons).

Even the iPad Air with its smaller bezels and shaved weight is nigh impossible to hold one-handed for most purposes. If you're watching a video on the train or reading notes for a class before your mid term or maybe you want to play a quick game while you wait for a friend to get his car and come by the restaurant entrance. There's so many different uses for an iPad Mini that would just be obnoxiously difficult with a full sized iPad.

When I had a Mini, I could take it anywhere I go quite comfortably. I could take it into restaurants and leave it next to the napkins, take it to work and it fits snugly underneath my computer monitor. If there weren't any seats on the bus, I could stand near a pole and use one hand to hold myself and the other to hold the mini and even flip pages as I'm reading a comic or ebook. Could even hit the home button and shimmy my hand up the side to open Hulu or Netflix.

I tried doing that with a 10" iPad 4 and even a smaller bezel wouldn't make that a comfortable experience. Those extra 2" make a big difference when it comes to using one hand to operate the tablet.

It all depends on who you are and what you use your tablet for. I have a Galaxy Note 2 and it's 1.5" bigger than your iPhone 5 and I couldn't stand the thought of trying to read Engineering notes or watching Netflix on it. It's just too small (FOR ME).

I have been reading these forums for quite some time and I thought it was time to chime in.

Here is my thinking in choosing an iPad Air over the mini. I already own an iphone 5. It's got a beautiful display. That is my mini, my portable device that goes everywhere I go.

The Air is the perfect compliment when I need or want the larger screen. It's small enough to bring anywhere if I want to bring it. It's large enough to do work.

Those are my thoughts on the subject.....

lol i only been saying this since the release of the mini.

This was just my opinion. I realize many different people will have many different uses for each product. But this is what works for me. I was in an Apple Store today in NYC and I have to say the mini looks nice. However, for the reasons above, for me, I know I made the right choice. I also have no idea about all the complaints about the mini screen...it looked as good as my Air's.
