I had this issue when I first got my iPhone as well. I think the problem arose from the fact that I ported over my Verizon number as opposed to just getting a new number. As other people have mentioned, my solution was to call AT&T and wait 24-72 hours. (Truth be told it took a couple of calls)

I don't know if this necessarily had anything to do with taking my Verizon number with me, but it is all that I could think of.

In any case, call AT&T and give it a little time and patience; you'll be getting texts again without issue before too long.

I should have known right away that my call to tech support was going to be a waste of time. The first thing the guy told me to do was remove the battery from my phone. I told the guy I had an iphone and his response was an encouraging "oh". The call finished with him recommending I turn off my 3G. How is that an acceptable solution to this problem? It's called an iphone 3G! Why would I disable one of the most important features of the phone?! If turning off 3G fixes this problem, AT&T and/or Apple have some serious problems on their hands. There is no excuse for missing so many text messages, and the fact that there doesn't appear to be a solution to the problem is disturbing.

get an old crappy nokia, like a 3120. unlock it and then call them from that, so they can't quibble with it.

that said, mine's still not fixed 2 weeks on. they rebroadcast my number, and it didn't work. now it's being sent to the highest engineers and it's something wrong with the company something365 or something who manages texts cross-carriers.

PLUS, he said that i'm the 4th person today that called with a 646 area code number with this problem.

My iPhone won't accept texts from other carriers either

I ported my number from Virgin Mobile and have not received texts from other carriers since I purchased my iphone. Called att&t, couldn't fix it, apple support was closed. Very frustrated that I'm paying for texts that I cannot use. Is apple the only one's that can fix this?

if you can receive from your own carrier, but not others, it is the networks fault, not Apple's.

Test - put your sim an an old unlocked GSM phone and see if a bunch of messages come through.
