YOUR VERIZON IPHONE: Has 2G, 3G and LTE.
FRIEND'S AT&T (NOT AT@T) IPHONE: Has 2G, 3G, '3G+' (called '4G' by AT&T), and LTE.
Your phone does not support '3G+', therefore you only see a 3G indicator. Simples.

Finally thank you I'm a retard I needed that in simple terms I thought there was something wrong with my phone we did a speed test same server he got 8mbs on his 4g and I only got 1.11
Nitpick: His Phone supports 4G/3G+, his carrier does not.
