Hey AJ, yes, a new learning curve for us old guys.
I knew this happened on 4S, but not an iPhone4.
Thanks for the confirmation.

Not sure if someone said this before, but i did this with my iPad 2 (tried to restore blablabla), went stuck with the spinning wheel, then i hold power+home and everything was normal again, with jailbreak.

Seems all iDevices on iOS5 can now recover from what used to lead to a certain restore.

Do what applejuiced said

If u updated mobile substrate then u'll be able to put phone in safe mode.
In safe mode just delete the most recent or random tweak.
It happened to me couple days ago and found the culprit. (vuzio)
I guess that app didn't function well and also added the YouTube faster stream tweak. And some random siri functions, vuzio didn't seem to play nice with Siri calling functions.
Well hopefully u got it out of looping as I did, and don't resort in upgrade firmware.

Im afraid I lost the other files that are needed for cydia to work

Run redsn0w

this might be a stupid question but I have not seen a definitive answer to my question so here goes. If I am already jailbroken on Redsnow (an older version), can i run the exploit again without losing my jailbreak or any apps/settings that are currently on my phone with the new version of Redsnow? Is there any benefits or disadvantages to doing this?

If you're jailbroken and have no issues why would you? Any updates to corona (the exploit) are issued through Cydia.

You will gain absolutely nothing by re-running the jailbreak (in fact, it might actually break something)

Sorry a little off topic. Since we can't erase all settings in a jailbroken iphone 4s. and we can restore without updating to the 5.1.1, my iphone has been crashing way more frequently since jailbreak and more and more random apps's icon went white and I have to respring to get it back. Is there a way I can uninstall everything I have installed to make it like brand new jailbroken device again? will it leave residues (left over files) after you uninstall all the programs?

Also is there a reference as what is install by default on cydia? so I can uninstall everything else.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Said you saved your 5.0.1 SHSH then you'll be able to restore to 5.0.1 when the new redsn0w comes out

This was a replacement phone from Apple. It came with 5.0.1 but when I jailbreak this phone and save the shsh it was already 5.1 :(

Jailbreaking the phone doesn't mess it up. I would remove all mods and start from scratch. Re run redsn0w as a last resort but more likely than not its an installed tweak that's messing things up

Wish I would have seen this post prior to updating to 5.1.1 to fix my phone. My 4S cydia was broken and wouldn't show package details, so I tried to restore (fail) and had to resort to updating iOS to fix it.

Thanks Dwalls90. I asked because when there is an update to RedSnow (there have been many since I originally JB my phone), I wanted to make sure that there was in fact no benefit in redoing the JB with the updated RedSnow tool. The only updates I do are the update packages that come through Cydia for Corona
