timsutcliffe macrumors 6502 Dec 25, 2012 #3 Have a fiddle with the accessibility settings. I'm sure there's something in there which will let you lock the screen by tapping an option that appears rather than using the lock button. Doesn't fix the problem, but it may be useful.
