This is what I am getting now. I can't uodate any apps thanks to this error. I have no idea how to fix this.
I did enable the debug menu for the App store and reset the app store from there but that didn't help anything. I thought it was a permissions issue as I got this in console when I opened up the App store and tried to update an app.

Then I realised El Captain has the different privelages now that supposedly do not need fixing. Why would I get "installAuth=NO rights" then? Just not sure what's really going on here.

Would anyone know of a fix for this? Everytime I use pages and a few other apps they tell me to use the App Store to update them, but I can't as the App store is broken for me and I can't update anything.

Any help on this issue would be muchly appreciated.

Have you tried creating a new administrative user, logging out and updating software when logged into new user account? If it works problem is likely on your current user account.

Doing that worked totally. I updated everything on a new administrator user account I set up. So I do think as you do that my main user account has an issue with it. What exactly I have no idea though.

Thanks for thew advice, it worked like a charm. I'd like to fix my main user account though and not have to relog to the other user account just to use the app store.

Glad to help.

I'm not sure what is causing the problem but one possibility is permission issue.
Another possibility is third party application that isn't compatible with 10.11.
Or it might be a bug in Mac App Store which isn't exactly the most reliable application Apple has ever designed... :(

You could try running EtreCheck and posting the report, maybe it will shed more light into situation... :)
